The next day Hunter went to Sinclair's in his best outfit, dark, blue dress shirt tucked into

his pants. He was prepared to ask Alex out on a date. He had all planned out. He would bring

Alex the cookies he baked last night, ask him to a picnic, then they would ride off into the sunset

on a white horse. Or something like that. All Hunter had to do was walk in the bakery and ask him. It was easy but he felt the cliché "butterflies".Finally, he worked up enough courage and marched into the bakery, just like he had done

everyday for the past month, except this time Alex wasn't at the counter smiling. In his place was

a chubby, old man who was balding. He reminded Hunter of Santa Claus, but without the beard.

"What'ta can'ia do for ya?" The old man asked.

"Is Alex working today?" Hunter questioned.

The man shook his head and the strands of his hair that was left shook with it. "Alex is

off today. It'sa his burtday."

Hunter told the man thank you and left the bakery. He wandered around the shopping

center and thought about what to get Alex for his birthday. He walked past the library and

wondered if Alex liked reading.

The giant stone building was the largest in the town. It stood out against the bland colour

scheme of the rest of St.Coldsville, with its striking silver bricks and bright red doors. The sign

in the moss covered windows always said, "Open" even though that was a lie. Hunter guessed

that the librarians were too lazy to be bothered with switching it around every day. Leading up to

the entrance of the building was a stone path. Hunter decided to take the path and go to the

library.

Once inside Hunter searched for a book on baking. He was going to make Alex a

chocolate chip cookie, just like the one Alex a gave him the first time they had met. He figured

that since he was a baker he would appreciate the gift. He grabbed the first book he saw and flipped lazily through the pages. Hunter knew that he would be able to make the perfect cookies

first try, but he decided to check out some books on baking just in case.
