a/n: hey guys welcome back. I should have posted this one-shot the day before halloween, but I didn't think of it till recently. it's not my best but hope you enjoy and check the a/n at the end for more info! enjoy reading!

El's POV

"Hey El. It's me, Mike. It's day 352. Tomorrow's Halloween and I wish you could be there. Oh, wait. I just remembered that you probably don't know what Halloween is. Well it's this holiday where you dress up as anything you want to be. You can also go trick-or-treating which is where you knock on people's doors and they give you free candy. Anyways, me and the boys are dressing up as Ghostbusters. That's a movie. We will have to watch it when you get back." Mike says with a sad smile.

I was in the void, listening to Mike's daily call. He was sitting in the fort, as always. I'm happy that he didn't take it down. I'd like to be able to sit in it, with him preferably, when I get back.

I noticed how he looked. He was wearing his usual pajamas, a plain white tee and a pair of plaid pajama pants. His hair was a little messed up, pieces of hair sticking in all different directions. He also looked very tired. He had dark circles under his eyes. Something I had learned from Hop when I asked him about his under eye circles.

"El, I just...I jus-I want you to know that I miss you. God, I miss you so much, El." he says to me. I can see his eyes becoming glassy, the rims filled with tears.

I slowly walk towards him, feeling the water swish below my feet. I finally reach the fort and kneel down, face to face with Mike. He looks so beautiful up close. So real. I wish I could see him, just once in real life. Get to hold him, touch him, feel him.

I hesitantly reach my hand up, shakily going to cup his jaw. "El? Is that you?" he asks. I wish I could tell him I'm here, that I'm safe. "If you're there, please give me a sign. I want to know you're okay." but I can't. I can't tell him where I am.

After a few moments of silence, he lets out a sigh. "Well, it's getting late. I should probably get going. Night, El." he says. "Night, Mike." I reply in a whisper. A whisper that goes unnoticed.

He stands up, and heads back up the stairs. I miss him already. I miss the soft way that he explained things to me. I miss the way he made me eggos. I miss the way he held my hand when we were running from the bad men. And I miss the way he pressed his lips to mine, right before I left.

I take off the blindfold. Wiping the red liquid forming under my nose and switching off the static. I walk to my bed glumly. Plopping down and pulling the covers up to my chin.

I just want to see him. Hopper always says "soon" but that's never true. When is soon? I wish there was someway I could see him, in person.

I sat up with a jolt as I was hit with an idea. Mike said he and the boys were dressing up as Ghostbusters. I think that means they catch ghosts. Right?

I quickly run out to the kitchen, where Hop was sitting with a cup of coffee, going over some police reports. I approach him, "Hey, Hop?" I ask as quickly as possible. "Yeah, kid?" he replies. "What is Ghostbusters?" I ask. "Uh, well, it's this movie. It's about a group of guys who join together to capture some ghosts." So I was right! They do catch ghosts! "Why'd you want to know?" he asks. I can sense the suspicion in his voice. "No reason." I dismiss quickly. "Thanks, Hop!" I yell as I run back to my room.

I shut my door, forming my plan. That's it! I'll dress up as a ghost and Mike will catch me! I remember seeing ghosts on tv. I had once seen one that was a sheet with holes for the eyes. I look around my room, searching for something I can use.

I open my closet and spot some extra sheets on the top shelf. I use my powers to bring them to me. I quickly pull the sheet up and over my head. I can't see through it. I then remember I need to cut holes so I can see. I throw the sheet off.

I run straight to my dresser. I know Hop keeps scissors in here to cut loose strings on my clothes. I grab them out, walking carefully back over to my bed where I had set the sheet.

Once I have finally cut the holes for eyes, I pull the sheet over my head once again. It's perfect! You can't see me! No bad men will find me when I'm dressed up! That means tomorrow I can wear this and I can go see Mike! I can see him in real life! I'll get to hug him and show him that I'm okay! I take the sheet off, setting it carefully on the end of my bed.

Hopper once told me that if I go to bed, the next day will come sooner. I couldn't wait to see Mike, so I quickly changed into some pajamas and got under my covers. I closed my eyes, hoping I could fall asleep fast, so tomorrow would come faster.

I finally get to see Mike.

The next morning I woke up, excited for the day ahead of me. I could smell the breakfast Hop made for me, coming from the kitchen. I shot up out of bed. Getting dressed into some jeans and a flannel as fast as I could. I grabbed my ghost from the end of the bed, tossing it over my head and positioning it where I could see. Then I walked out to the kitchen.

I started my journey to the kitchen with a spring in my step. I stopped, a couple feet behind Hop. After a moment or two, he turned around. "Oh! Jesus!" he exclaims. I didn't think I would scare him, but it was kind of funny. "Ghost." I state simply. "Yeah, I see that." he says indifferently.

He moves to set the breakfast on the table. "Halloween." I state simply once again. "Sure is." he says extending the last word. "But right now it's breakfast. Okay?" I follow him with my eyes. "Come on. Let's eat." he tells me. "They wouldn't see me." I say. He looks back to me in confusion. "Who wouldn't see you?" he asks oblivious. "The bad men." I say. "What are you talking about?" he asks as he sits down at the table. "Trick-or-treat." I say cautiously. Making sure I say it right.

"You wanna go trick-or-treating?" he asks incredulously. I slightly nod my head in reply. "You know the rules." he says sternly as he rises from his seat. He grabs me softly by the arms, slowly leading me to my seat. "Yes, but—" I start. "Yes, you know the answer." he interrupts. "No, but—I don't—they wouldn't see me." I try to reason. "I don't care." he says, lowering himself to my height. "But they wouldn't see me!" I say once again. "I. Don't. Care." he says making his words very clear.

"Alright?" he asks, looking me straight in the eyes. "You go out there, ghost or not, it's a risk." he explains seriously. "We don't take risks. Alright?" he says. "They're stupid." he states. "And?" he asks, expecting me to finish. "We're. Not. Stupid." I say angrily. "Exactly...Now you take that off, and sit down, and eat." he says pointing to my chair. "Your food's getting cold." he says, heavily walking back to his seat.

I reluctantly pull off the sheet. Plopping down in my seat angrily. I send one final glare towards Hopper.

I guess I won't be seeing Mike tonight.
