It had been months since I'd left Zero and Eggman. I had abandoned my old look to try and blend back into society. Not really wanting to draw attention to myself, I lived alone on the streets, begging for spare change on street corners. When that didn't do well, I stole only food that wouldn't be noticed. It was quiet, occasionally I would be visited by some kids playing in the alleyways. They didn't bother me though, sometimes they would bring me food and toys. However no matter how much joy the children would give me, I still felt empty. I hated leaving Zero, he meant so much to me. Then I think about that Phantom Ruby, that gem made me nervous of what could happen when Eggman unlocks it's secrets. I never could have imagined what would happen next.

It was midday, everyone was heading back home soon. There were three kids in the alley with me that day, a boy bear cub, boy bird, and a girl bunny. They were kicking a ball around, laughing and smiling, before they had to return home for the day. I watched them smiling myself, "Must be nice not to have a care in the world."

My thoughts were shattered by screams coming from the center of the city. The kids quickly hid behind me as I stood up. Waving the kids to stand back, I rushed to the corner to see what was going on. What I saw surprised me, multiple monsters and hedgehogs were attacking as citizens ran for safety. Scared for the kids, I turned back to get them out of here. Only to find them being blocked by two monsters, one looked like a water being with green eyes and the other was red and black with large horns.

I quickly jumped on top of the water creature, squashing it, then fired a wire from my wrist around the other. Once it was wrapped I pulled myself towards him, kicking him down. I jumped back to the kids ready to defend them from more attacks, but the two monster faded away.

The kids were in awe from my skills, it seemed to comfort them, so they stuck close to me. I knew we had to run, if it was just me it wouldn't be a problem, but I had these three to look after. Looking out the corner for a solution, I saw soldiers fighting back with guns in hand. With the monster distracted by them, I saw my chance and raced off with the kids. As we ran, I noticed the city's medic flagging us down, waving us towards some kind of safe house.

"Go you'll be safe with them," I told the kids rushing them to the medic.

"Please miss," called out the medic, "I don't know you, but please if you can help us save the town. The one causing all this is in the center of City Square. Most of the soldiers went to fight, but I worry for them."

"Alright, I'll see what I can do," I said nodding, then ran towards the square.

"What monster could do this? What's there to gain?" I thought while grabbing an energy gun from the ground, shooting any monster in my path. Finally arriving to the square, I saw everyone trying to fire at a creature floating above. Something about him though seemed familiar. I couldn't dwell on it though, the floating creature fired energy balls, taking the soldiers out one by one. I looked around for a way to help then smiled

I launched my left wire to a building on my left, and my right wire to a building on my right. Once they were locked in place, I pulled myself back like a slingshot, launching myself into the air, aiming for the attacker. When I got close enough to him, I rapidly fired my energy gun. He was so focus on blocking my attacks, he didn't anticipate me ramming myself into him, as I knocked him to the ground.

"You pathetic insect!" growled the attacker, "You dare challenge my power?"

"Wait, that voice!" I thought, "It can't be..."

"You will pay for your foolishness!" he growled charging up an attack, that pushed everyone back. I quickly hid behind a piece of debris, while everyone continued to fight.

"There's no reason to resist. Your savior is no more," said the attacker as he fired another attack, knocking everyone out. Trembling I reached for my gun.

"I can taste your terror child," he said, surprising me as I aimed the gun at him. My hand just shook, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't shoot him.

"All that anxiety and doubt, it's delicious," he laughed as he shot the gun out of my hand, "Give in to your fear, flee, screaming and I'll let you live. If not..."

He summoned more monsters as they ran for me. I had no choice, but to flee, dodging attacks on the way out of the city, crying. I couldn't do it. I couldn't bring myself to attack him. As I neared the edge of the city, the monsters caught up with me, beating me down into the ground. This was it.

Suddenly the monsters were forced back, hard, by some unknown force. I weaky looked around to find a silver hedgehog and a red echidna coming to my rescue.

"Are you alright?" the silver one asked, "Don't worry your safe now."

"Silver, we have to get to our troops," called out the echidna.

I weakly grabbed the silver one's arm, begging, "Please, you've got to help him...you've got to help...Zero..." Then everything went black.
