Chapter Seven

I yawned at the breakfast table the next morning. Why oh why had I let Jesse talk me into that? Because, Becky, because. Because he's down right sexy, that's why!

"Gee, Aunt Becky, you look tired." Michelle observed.

"I am..." I nodded as I yawned.

"How come?"

I glared at Jesse. "I just couldn't fall asleep, is all."

"Are you tired, Uncle Jesse?"

"Nope." He ate a big fork full of pancakes. "How come you're tired, Becky?"

"Jess, I'm not like you; I need more than five hours of sleep."

Stephanie looked up. "Ooh! Gia's here!" She stuffed the last bite of pancake in her mouth and opened the door.

"Hi, Steph."

"Hi, Gia. Come on; let's go."

"Daddy saved Mommy," Nicky told her.

"Huh?" Gia asked.

"Yosemite Sam was gonna kill her!" Alex informed her.

"What?"

"Ill tell you on the way." Stephanie and Gia left.

Even though it was a struggle to eat, Jesse ate like a horse! Did he always eat like this after a night of fun?

It had been three weeks since Jesse had been shot. He was doing well, but he never wore the sling! Man, for a guy who wanted to get better, he sure wasn't following the rules! We went to the doctor's for a follow-up.

"Have you been wearing the sling?" the doctor asked Jesse.

"Not exactly.." Jesse responded.

Dr. brown looked at him.

"Some of the time?....every other day?.... on the weekends?...." Jesse sighed and confessed. "Never."

"You need to start wearing it most of the time... Rebecca, have you been experiencing stress lately?" What did this have to do with Jesse?

"No... well, yeah. I haven't been sleeping since Jesse got shot--"

"The second night doesn't count," Jesse interrupted.

"Shut up. I keep seeing him get shot. Every time I close my eyes, I see that awful scene."

"Hmm... Why don't you come back tomorrow around one o'clock?"

"If you think I need to, I'll be here."
