.....

10 years later

.....

I looked through my texts until I found J and shot him a quick text.

Me: Hey, are you working tomorrow?

Him: No. Wanna go to the waterfall?

Me: Yeah. That would be awesome.

. . . . .

I sat down on the rock where we usually sit. We've come here before so many times before, so it just comes naturally. I watch the water a bit until footsteps approach. J sits next to me after a second.

"Hey, I missed you. A lot," he says, then kisses me deeply after sitting next to me.

"I missed you," I smiled, then the smile faltered. "Um... J...."

"What is it, my love?"

"I.... I'm growing your baby...." I tell him slowly.

"You're...?" His eyes go wide and he picks me up by my waist and spins me around while smiling. "No way! Oh my gosh! I'm so excited!" He gently set me down and dropped to his knees, pulling me close, and kissed my tummy. "I love them already. I love you. I... I don't know what to say. Thank you seems absurdly short, but---"

I cut him off by kissing him. Finally, I pull back.

"I love you," he says, staring deep into my eyes.

"I love you."

"Let's lay down and just talk for a while," J suggests.

"I'd love that."

. . . . .

"When did you find out?"

"How far along are you?"

"About a month."

I feel my heart swell with love as J reaches over and gently rubs my belly. I'm not really showing yet, but there is a slight bump.

"You know, I always thought you were meant to be a mom. You're going to be the best."

I turned on my side and laid my head on his chest. "You really think so?"

"Yes." He smiled and kissed the top of my hair. "And I'll be helping you the entire time, because I love you. I want the baby and I want this life with you. I need you," he whispered to me. He poked my belly, motioning to the baby. "And I love you too, baby."

. . . . .

After just talking and cuddling for hours, he got up and helped me up, then we walked back to his car, hand in hand.
