"This is the absolute best place for scuba diving." Our instructor says. "There is no other place left on earth where you can get such a clean and safe experience of scuba diving!"

I nod my head understanding what he meant.

When I was a kid, I went scuba diving with my family. It was the best time I ever had. The oceans where clear, clean and coral reef was full of happy fishes.

I had never heard of a whale choking on a plastic bag. But now it has become one of the most common articles in the news. I read an article just yesterday, about how a big blue whale, the last of its species died because of a plastic bag. A measly plastic bag.

When we use single-use plastics, we never consider the harm it does to the environment. We forget to take a small bag with us so that we have something to carry our belongings in, and we end up buying single-use plastic bags.
We think: 'Oh it's just one plastic bag, it's not going to be the end of the world.' but the tiny fact we're always missing is, it is the end of the world. Every single plastic item produced and used is the end of the world.

My attitude towards single-use plastic has drastically changed in the last thirty years. I used to be one of those people who were too lazy to bring a bag with them. I ended up buying a plastic bag every time I went shopping. When I got back home, I threw away the bag in the dustbin. I never actually thought about how it affects our world.

The government's efforts did affect us a little but what they forgot to do was create awareness.  There are so many people, even in 2050, who think that single-use plastic does not have a horrible effect on the environment. They don't know the fact that ecosystems die and get completely eradicated due to these plastics. At this point plastic isn't even a thing, it's a curse.

I put on my scuba diving costume.

The instructor tells us all the instructions. I listen to him carefully and brace myself for what's about to come.

Holding my breath, I jump into the water.

When I open my eyes, I am saddened and astounded at the same time. The sight I see in front of me saddens me, and I was astounded by the fact that we did this to our environment.

We ruined the home of something that helped us get a home.

All the waste we produce is dumped into the oceans. For us, the ocean may be a large, enormous body of water and one plastic bag might not matter. But when even those huge oceans are filled to their brim with the amount of waste we produce. We know there is a problem that needs to be solved immediately.
