CHAPTER SEVEN

GIRL TALK

“So, (y/n)…” Jane chided, “What’ll we do today?”

“Hmmm, actually, it’s time for me to work.” You thought and Jane’s face saddened.

“Oh.” She muttered. Sadness evident in her voice.

“Wanna come?” Her eyes widened and hugged you.

“Oh yes, please.” You just laughed at her. “Where are we going?”

“We’re going to Central Park.”

At Central Park…

“What are we doing here?” Jane looked confused.

“Well, according to my necklace, 89 percent of the couples will pass through here.” You told her.

“Really? Your necklace can talk?” She sounded skeptical.

“Yeah. She’s like my assistant. She keeps everything intact when it comes to my schedules.”

“That’s cool.” She looked at your necklace. “What’s her name?”

You were caught on her question. You didn’t know as well. “I can’t answer that cause I’m not really sure. We only talk about my to-do lists and stuff, you know, related to my duties as Cupid.”

“Well, let’s ask her then.” She heartily spoke, “Hi, I’m Jane.”

Surprisingly, your necklace gave a reply. She sounded so formal. “Hello Jane, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“Ah! She can talk.” Your friend joyfully said.

“We’d like to acquire your name.” You gleefully said to her.

“My name… I believe my name is Dianne.” Her voice sounded like that of a full grown woman.

“Dianne. That’s a really pretty name.” Jane said. It is.

“Thank you, Jane.”

“(y/n), that man over there is about to kidnap this woman’s daughter.” You three eyed the lady talking to another lady. She was oblivious that her child was already playing at the grass. The man was slowly approaching the young girl.

“Not on my watch. Let shame fill your heart.” You said and shot a purple arrow at the man. It was a guilt arrow. “I know you’re better than that, Mister.”

“Bull’s eye!” Jane acknowledged.

And without any delay, the man left with remorse filling his heart.

“So Dianne, who were you before you became a necklace.” She asked.

“Well, like (y

) and the other guardians, I don’t remember as well.”

“Oh, that’s okay. I think you were a fine young woman before.” You tried to cheer her up.

“Thanks, (y/n).” She giggled.

The three girls ended up talking about their likes and dislikes, and wants and desires. Shared a few jokes and laughed at each other. In the midst of it, you were also shooting a few people to make them go to the right path and not make a mistake. Before you three could even notice it, the skies were slowly changing hues. From bright blues and yellows to orange, pink and indigo.

“Most of the couples have passed (y/n).” Dianne believed.

“It’s getting pretty late as well.” Jane anxiously said.

“Well, I guess it’s time to head back.” You said and raised both yourself and Jane a few feet above the ground.

***

As the three of you reached your room, your chatting continued.

“Hey Dianne, do you like anyone?” Jane started. Wow, she’s one talkative person but you can’t blame her. You can feel that she’s enjoying every single second with you and Dianne as company. You got a knack at understanding people’s feelings.

“M-Me? Well… actually I do. But I only saw him once at Manny’s Annual Ball.” She faltered.

“Manny?” Jane questioned.

“Oh, right. I forgot to introduce you to him. He’s the Man in the Moon. Or Manny or MiM. Your choice, really. He is responsible for all us Guardians and Spirits. Even Dianne.” You explained to her. She just nodded at every end of your sentence.

“Really, I’d like to meet him.” She excitedly said.

“Well, maybe you can. It’s in the middle of October now, Manny’s ball happens every end of the year which is the 31st of December.” Dianne cheered.

“I didn’t know there was a ball every 365th day.” You spoke.

“365th?” Jane laughed, “(y/n), you sound like a nerd.”

“Sorry, that just came up.” You apologized.

“Maybe you were a nerd before.” You all laughed at Dianne’s suggestion. Hey, maybe you were, we’re not entirely sure about your past.

“Anyway, that ball. Is it possible for a human to join?” Jane said. The human is obviously her.

“Well, I guess you can, Jane. There’s not a rule were humans can’t.”

“Great! Anyway, about the guy?” Jane brought back the topic.

“Oh yeah. Anyway, he was the Summer Sprite, Darren.”

“He sounds quite charming.” You teased Dianne.

“He is. He was so nice and was such a gentleman.” She sighed dreamily.

“Wait, he wasn’t surprised? You know, not to be rude, a talking necklace.” Jane asked.

“Oh right, you see, Manny turns every person in the ball back to their original looks.” She said, “Bunny looks really handsome too.”

“You mean the Easter Bunny?” You smirked.

“Yes. His may sound old but he’s actually still nineteen, when it comes to faces, that is. Manny just changed his voice to suit his appearance.” Now I understand. So Bunny’s just three years older than us. Than Jane. It’s a good number. Besides, when it comes to love, age really doesn’t matter.

“Well, that’s all the information I can reveal to you guys. You’ll just have to wait till the ball to witness the rest.” She added.

“So my original looks will be revealed as well?” You asked her.

“Yes.” She guaranteed.

. . .

The ball’s really exciting huh? But don’t worry, we’ll get to the part soon. :3 Tune in next week! :D
