TABITHA’S POV
My tears couldn’t stop rolling while I was walking on the silent road. I had no idea where to go. I wanted to go to Melly’s house, but what time was time? One, two? I didn’t want to disturb her and her family. I just let my feet chose the destination for me. The cold breeze was pinning my skin reminded me of the past. We were one a happy family. We had everything. We were not the wealthiest family in the town. But, there was a time when money wasn’t our biggest concern. Everything started to change when my mom was diagnosed having cysts in her womb. The doctor said that by taking her womb, we could prevent her from getting cancer, and we agreed. A year after that I had a normal life too, until one day I accidentally saw my father with another girl in a restaurant. I wanted to believe that she was his colleague, but how they behaved wasn’t anything on ‘friendzone’. I told my mom, she didn’t believe me, not until few months later where she found it by herself.
Everything changed by that time, my father never been as he was before. He barely came home, I stopped talking to him. Last year, he business went down, we started to lose everything, I found that the girl had left my father, because my father couldn’t financing her anymore. I wanted to believe him that he was sorry for what he had done, but not even a day he showed that he was really sorry. Never. He kept shouting at mom. I tried so many times to forgive him, but he didn’t give one good reason for it. And from this day, I wasn’t sure that I could find a reason to forgive him.
My feet took me to the bridge which separated the north and south part of my town. I sat under the road light. I could hear the sound the swishy lake beside me and some crickets not far from me. “Stop crying, Tabby.” I kept telling myself those words. I had felt always so alone, but had never been this lonely. It was quiet, death quiet. The sky was getting darker each minute; the cold breezing didn’t stop pinning my skin. My pajama wasn’t enough to protect me for the cold air.
I circled my around my knee, embracing myself like a cocoon. For the past fifteen there was no car crossed that road, until one. I didn’t focus on that car, but it stopped few meters from me. A man came out from that car and walked toward me. I could hear his footsteps were getting heavier as he came near me. I just didn’t have any strength to look up at him. He stood up in front me; he pulled me up and into his embrace. I could feel the warmth, it was the feeling I dreamt about every night. It was Matt.
God knew how much I missed being in his arm, and it was the right moment. I really needed him at that time. “Sshh” he caressed my hair affectionately. I just didn’t know why I couldn’t stop crying. I cried even harder than before. He didn’t stop me but comforting me.
“How did you find me?” I asked with hoarse voice. I just leaned my face on your shoulder as I got more control on myself.
“I never left.” he whispered in my right ear, “I was waiting for you outside your house, and when I saw you came out. I followed you.” he held my face in his warm hand, with his thumbs he wiped away my tears.”You don’t want to sleep here, right?” he chuckled lightly.
I shook my head, “I don’t want go back to my home.”
Matt released his hand from my face. He took his tux and circled it around my shoulder.”Let’s go.” he said. He circled his arm around my shoulder and brought me to his car. He opened the passenger door and waited for me to get in before he went to the driver seat. He didn’t start the engine straight away, I could feel his sight was all over me. Few moments later, he reached for my hand and held in his hand. He started to drive his home.
His house was just like what I remembered. His parents owned few houses in the house, but this was the biggest one. It was like four houses being merged into one. He pulled his car to the garage; his garage was as wide as my hall. The garage was located beside the garden, separated by a masonry fence. Matt opened the door; he brought me out to the garden. It was a huge garden, with two swings, few birds, and few flagstones which pointed directly to house. I used to jump on each flagstone to get to the house. Those memories. I looked up at Matt several times, asking myself whether or not he still remembered all those memories, all those fun we had together.
The maid opened the door for us; she took Matt’s tux from my shoulder. I took a quick glance around his hall. A lot had changed since I came here. He had couples of new sofa with turquoise color, three China ewers, one more thing I noticed was the wall paint was changed too, he used to have cream color, but now it was golden brown, it really gave a grand view on the hall.
“Have father and mother come?” Matt asked.
“No sir, they will come in next weeks.” The maid answered.
“Do you want to eat something, Tabby?” he asked me.
Just that I remembered I hadn’t eat anything for the past 7 hours. I wasn’t hungry either.”No.” I shook my head.
Matt nodded, “This way.” he led me to stairs. As we reached the second floor, he led me to his room. His room didn’t even change a bit. There two side of his room, the first side was painted with turquoise color, classic paintings were on each corner of the room, I still couldn’t get what the pictures on each painting were about. Two green colored sofa, a grand piano and a fridge. The second side was his bedroom, A king size bed, a bathroom, and a wooden polished wardrobe.”Just wait here, I’ll get a quick shower.” he said and pointed to his bed.
I nodded and sat on the edge of the bed. I looked around his room for few minutes, but my mind wasn’t even there. Things moved vastly inside my head, I couldn’t be sure what I was thinking about. Fifteen minutes later, Matt came out. He was wearing a plain white shirt and a black short, so simple.
“Just take rest, here. I’ll be on Sam’s room.” he said with his signature smile.
I didn’t want to be alone, that was all in my head. I grabbed his hand just as he wanted to leave, “Stay. Please?” Matt was quite surprised with my request, I could see it clearly in his eyes. “I don’t want be alone.” I said slowly releasing my grip in his hand.
He stood up in front of me and caressed my hair just like he did when he found me.”You are not.” he said.
I moved, so we could share the bed. I moved myself inside his arms. I didn’t feel alone anymore, all the weights had been left from my shoulders. I didn’t know how long it would last, me and him. But, that was all I needed at that time. Him and his company. He pulled the blanket over us. I liked the way his fingers moved inside my hair. I didn’t wait for too long until sleep took me away.
