"Are you sure this'll work out?" ZhengTing stood nervously beside Meirong as they waited for Xiaoqin. Meirong arranged for the two to meet at an amusement park, make up then spend the day together.
"Positive," Meirong replied, before spotting Xiaoqin at the gate. "There she is!" She exclaimed before turning to face her neighbor.
"You can do this Zhu ZhengTing!" She raised her fist up in an encouraging manner before running away to hide. A small smile found its way to ZhengTing's face as he watched his neighbor leave, he wanted to say something, but she didn't give him the chance to.
Meirong went to a nearby cafe and sat there, pretending to peer at the menu. From afar, she watched as Xiaoqin approached ZhengTing.
The two stood in silence, Xiaoqin glaring at ZhengTing who in return, stood limply with his head hung low.
"You wanted to meet me? What is it?" Xiaoqin asked impatiently. Meirong wasn't that far away so she was able to make out some of what the girl was saying.
"Uh, I..." ZhengTing frantically tried to remember what Meirong told him to say but his mind was blank like the expression Xiaoqin held.
"If you have nothing to say, I'll get going," Xiaoqin was about to turn on her heel but ZhengTing stopped her, "Wait!"
Xiaoqin faced him slowly, her irritated expression couldn't be any more clear.
"Look, there was a misunderstanding," ZhengTing began, his voice somewhat pleading, "she is my neighbor and she was only using my WiFi, nothing more."
"Really?" Xiaoqin said mockingly, "you think I'll believe that?"
"This is really what happened."
"You're so pathetic," Xiaoqin rolled her eyes before turning around, leaving a heartbroken ZhengTing behind.
"Oh, I could just pluck her eyes out," Meirong said as she walked up to her neighbor, "how dare she leave like that?!"
Ignoring Meirong's remarks, ZhengTing stared at the floor, clenching his fists frustratedly.
"Honestly, where the hell did she get her manners from?" Meirong kept complaining about the girl's behavior, as if it's the worst thing she's ever seen.
"Forget it Meirong," ZhengTing sighed, relaxing his fists and trying to put a smile on his face.
"Forget it? I don't think so," Meirong crossed her arms, "she thinks she can hurt you and leave like that, as if you're just another issue she has to deal with. I think not-" Meirong was cut off by ZhengTing's laugh, "you seem more determined to bring her back than me."
"That's not the case, she's rude and we shouldn't let her get away with it-"
"Let's do that later, but since we're here," ZhengTing threw an arm around Meirong's shoulders and started walking with her towards the center of the amusement park, "Let's make use of our tickets, aye?"
Meirong's eyes widened at his sudden action and she awkwardly shrugged his arm off, "Yeah, whatever."
The two played around in the park until the sun went down, then they sat in a cafe for a small snack. Although the beginning of the day was somewhat upsetting, ZhengTing had fun. He'd never been to an amusement park with Xiaoqin before but spending the day with Meirong wasn't that bad. The girl managed to make him forget about Xiaoqin.
"Thank you for today," he smiled at the girl sitting in front of him.
"What for? I didn't do anything special," Meirong rolled her eyes, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. There was no denial that she enjoyed the day, but the unsettling feeling it brought along was enough for her to hide everything.
ZhengTing was about to say something before the loud bang of fireworks interrupted him. Meirong directed her gaze up to the sky as she watched the firework show in awe.
ZhengTing watched the fireworks but he found his eyes trailing back to the girl with him. Light from the sky washed over her, making her look star-touched. Involuntary, the corners of his lips rose up in a smile. But was it right for him to smile like that?
