It was the last day of suspension for ZhengTing so, he decided to spend it in the library. Sometimes, you'd find him helping Meirong around, but most of the time, you'd find him busily playing on his phone. And while ZhengTing enjoyed free time, Meirong was working diligently.
Today was the day. She's finally getting her paycheck, and soon enough, she'll have her own router. That was her motivation for the day.
As she was arranging misplaced books in the fantasy and Sci-Fi section, a small boy approached her. He held an open book in his hands and an innocent gleam in his eyes, "Excuse me, miss?"
"Yes?" Meirong diverted her focus from the books to the little boy who stood before her, "How can I help you, sweetheart?"
"Can you help me find the meaning of a word?" He asked, his eyes enlarging, "My mom is busy so she can't help me."
"Of course! What word is it?" Meirong kept an enthusiastic attitude for the young boy.
"This one," he pointed at a word in the open book he held. Meirong furrowed her eyebrows, the word was new to her too, and she was wondering why was the kid reading a book above his level.
"Let me look it up for you," she said as she fished out her phone from her pocket. She typed the word in the search bar and waited for results.
Lollapalooza (noun);
A person or a thing that is particularly impressive or attractive.
A small smile formed on her lips as she explained the word to the eager child. She watched him waddle away contentedly, hugging the book tightly as he hurried to tell his mother about his discovery.
Meirong glanced at her watch, realizing that it's time for lunch break, she pushed her cart and set it aside, scurrying off to grab her things from the staff room. She left the staff room with her handbag as she searched for her neighbor. Meirong spotted him at one of the reading tables.
"Hey," she poked his shoulder, "It's lunch break."
ZhengTing looked up from his phone, slightly startled by Meirong's presence.
"Oh, really?" ZhengTing chuckled sheepishly, he didn't notice the time passing.
"Yeah really," Meirong rolled her eyes, "C'mon, I'm starving."
The two left the library to head to the diner across the street. The one Meirong visits everyday for lunch. It was a humble restaurant, with a simple menu and comfortable seating, but it was good enough for lunch. At least that's what Meirong thought; ZhengTing was very close to cancelling all noodle-based dishes from his life.
"So," Meirong began as they waited for the green light to turn red, "I learned a new word today."
"Yeah?" ZhengTing smiled at her random statement, a quiet laugh escaping his lips.
"The word is Lollapalooza," Meirong continued, "Something or someone that is particularly attractive, or impressive."
ZhengTing hummed in reply as Meirong thought of a way to use the word. "So, for example, one could say that you, ZhengTing, are a lollapalooza."
"Do you think I'm particularly attractive?" ZhengTing smirked smugly as he raised an eyebrow, making Meirong roll her eyes at him, "It was just an example, don't get ahead of yourself."
"Whatever you say."
"I got it!" Meirong announced as she held up a small box victoriously. She left at an early hour to buy a new router once the store opens, and she was back to share her success with her neighbor.
"Did you have to wake me up this early to tell me that?" ZhengTing said between yawns as he tried to focus on the girl standing by his doorstep.
"Yes, today is a day marked in history, my friend." ZhengTing's unenthusiastic reaction wasn't going to dampen Meirong's mood.
"I see, congratulations, should we celebrate?" ZhengTing said with a hint of sarcasm, still salty about being woken up that early.
"We should, but I'd rather go activate the device," Meirong explained sheepishly, failing to hide her excitement about the new router.
"Anyways, I'll see you later," she smiled before turning around to head to her apartment.
"See you," ZhengTing barely mumbled as he watched his neighbor skip away gleefully. She stopped midway and turned around, a thought appearing in her mind.
"Congratulations to you too, you're finally free from my drama-addicted self hogging the internet," she joked. ZhengTing laughed along, although he wasn't sure if he was really happy about that. He got used to having Meirong randomly crash his place with the excuse of using the internet, he maybe even enjoyed it.
Sighing, ZhengTing shut his door to be engulfed by silence, the two carnival tickets on the table stared right back at him, as if mocking him.
Everything was going back to how it used to be, he should be relieved. But why did he feel glum about it?
Pineapple in Arabic is "ananas"
If you divide the word in half it will be: "ana nas"
And that literally means: I am people
Gsjdhdjhdj- idk what came to me but I've been thinking about this too much 😂😂😂
