~FLASHBACK~
Karan stopped his bike in front of a girl, who held her book close to her chest, with fear filling her eyes. She looked up slowly.
"Come, I'll drop you to your house."he told with a smile on his face.
"No, it's okay, I'll go all by myself. Besides, i don't stay at home", mumbled the girl, avoiding eye contact. She walked past Karan, her eyes still fixed to the ground. Karan watched her walk away in simple astonishment of her behaviour. He went after her, on his bike and stopped her once again. She jerked in her steps.
"Okay, then, Nidhi, I'll drop you to your hostel?" he asked her once again.
"No, I don't stay at a hostel either. And, I can go myself." she replied holding onto her books tighter as spoke in a higher tone, to Karan.
Karan frowned."Okay, fine. Can I drop you wherever you are going? You told me that you don't have a phone. And it's getting darker. I won't be able to go home peacefully if i don't find u reach home safe"
"Listen...Karan Singh Chauhan, I can go all by myself. I don't want you to come with me. Also it wasn't your fault that we got stuck in the elevator. So it's fine.... please go home" she mumbled and walked away once again.
Karan knew that she wasn't gonna listen to him. So he switched his bike, off and he dragged the bike along his side. He was soon walking on her side. She continued to walk, eyes still fixed to the ground," Karan Singh Chauhan, why are you walking beside me? Please go home." she said in a embarrassed tone.
"I don't stay at my home. hmph!" he replied in a girlish tone and looked away from her, continuing to walk beside her.
She felt a little embarrassed, she knew he was pulling her leg. "Karan Singh Chauhan, you must go home. I don't need your company. I can really go, myself!"
Karan ignored her and continued to walk beside. And she had no other option. The only ways of escape; public transports were on strike for the day. She increased her speed and she walked as fast as she could. Karan started his bike, rode off and blocked her way. She shrieked in shock. There were few hawkers who were on their daily errands, selling vegetables, fruits flowers, etc. Their attention suddenly turned towards the duo. Karan got off his bike to convince her.
Two women walked up towards them. They stood by Nidhi and conversed with them in the local language," Why? Are you okay child? Is this guy troubling you in any manner? Or is he some boyfriend of yours, Huh?" one of the women asked Nidhi, specially stressing on the last question to know if she had to turn on against Nidhi too; for walking in these lonely streets in the evening along with her alleged boyfriend.
Sensing the danger, Karan took few seconds to build up a small story of bluff. By then Nidhi nodded no, "No, aunty. He is not troubling me." her eyes fixed on the ground, her voice barely heard.
"What are you doing on these lonely streets? And who is he? Your Boyfriend? If he is, then I will inform the police that you are roaming around here and doing unnecessary things on the road!", the woman cleared her intention on her questioning.
Nidhi's heart skipped a beat and Karan gulped down his deep fear and decided to speak up. It was time for his bluff story, " I'm not her boyfriend...." Nidhi knew that now Karan had personally called for the trouble. She lifted her head up and looked at his face. Through the corner of her eyes, she saw one of the women walk back to bring few men. Nidhi nodded no, looking at Karan. She wanted to ask him, why did he have to say that!
The men shouted as they approached him. "Oye! Who do you think you are? How can you irritate a young women on the road? Huh?" one of the man raised his hands to slap Karan, even before Karan could reply.
