The door shivered vigorously as it was forcefully smashed open.
Meghna and Kunal jerked a little but composed themselves immediately. Meghna was ready to swing the vase on the first person to enter but she noticed something. Her muscles relaxed and she slowly brought her weapon down. Kunal noticed Meghna relax. He seemed confused but that's when he noticed it too.
The men who had entered the room wore similar uniforms, but they weren't black suits representing Raghav's team but khaki uniforms. The police!
Kunal relaxed.
One of the officers walked up towards them. His badge announced Deepak P. Kunal cleared his throat to say something but the officer spoke up. "You are Chauhan sir's son, right?"
Kunal nodded, "yes..."
Meghna just looked at the two of them a little confused and annoyed.
"We were just informed to come here and rescue you... He didn't explain much... What exactly happened here? Where is the danger you are talking about?" Officer Deepak asked. Before Kunal could say anything in response, the balcony's slide doors and the bathroom's door began shaking as the men behind them resumed banging the doors to grab attention. They must have thought that it was their men.
The officer straightened his back, held up his hand and signalled his team to check the two doors while he stood fixed to his position. He watched them open the doors. There were few seconds of silence before the statements of justification and pull and pushing away on either side. The policemen caught Raghav and even his two men who were on the balcony.
"To the jeep," said the officer and turned to Kunal and the masked girl as his men were dragging the culprits out.
"So.. you didn't answer my question..." And why are you wearing a mask.. mind removing that?"
"Uh, sir, not yet..." Kunal said raising his arm, trying to shield Meghna.
"Huh...?" The officer said before noticing Kunal. Kunal was waiting for Raghav and his men to exit. Raghav managed to glare at Kunal for a second before he was pulled out of the room.
The officer stood there, waiting for Kunal to respond. Meghna felt uncomfortable. Something was disturbing her. But she didn't know what it was and why it disturbed her. She stood there, unmoving and silent.
"Will you tell me what's going on...if the time is auspicious, now, sir?" The officer said in a slightly stern tone.
Kunal was snapped out of his thought, "Yes, sir. Uh... One of my friends was kidnapped. Raghav threatened her with her parents' life and she was held captive. On a hunch, my friends and I came to attend this party. Secretly, looking for her. We found her..."
"One second! Hold on! What are we police for? That you and your friends decided to go solve a case like Sherlock Holmes...? Are we of no use? It was a kidnapping case... Why wasn't it reported to us?!" The officer asked.
"Sir, I didn't mean to look like that. This was just a hunch. And the hunch turned out to be true. We couldn't help but try and run. We did call for you before all this happened." Kunal pointed at his wound.
"This is ridiculous! And how did that happen? And is this one the kidnapped girl?"
"No, sir. This is my friend. She and another friend of mine came along to look for the kidnapped girl. We found our friend in one of the rooms and tried to escape. During that attempt, they noticed us. The guards ran behind us. I tried to divert their attention from the girls. And they held me and beat me up."
"Where are the kidnapped girl and the other friend? I'll need to take their statements too. I just don't get why you youngsters can't just leave our business to us and do your studies!"
Kunal looked at Meghna who was lost in some thought. He nudged her arm lightly, "Meghna..."
Meghna snapped out of her thought. Kunal repeated the question to her. "She.. they are in the car, outside."
"Take me to the car." the police officer said. Meghna began walking as told. She took some time but brushed aside her thoughts and continued to march forward.
