I sat on the pier, halfway through a song I made up, until I heard giggles and laughter. I pulled out a cloth meant to clean the violin and used a hair tie to cover my right side of my face. I picked up my bow and continued to play. I started humming trying To make up lyrics. I was never taught to play or to sing, but I thought my voice was good. Father taught Elizabeth and Gustave, though Elizabeth was horrible at playing an instrument, Gustave was the opposite. He was brilliant, he could play many instruments. Once I stoped, I heard clapping and turned around to see a crowd of people. I blush and start to pack up.

"No, please don't go. Can you play another song and sing again? It was beautiful." I hear a women say, she had a plain dress on but her hair was in an updo.

"You like my playing and singing?" I ask, thinking it was a joke.

"Yes!" I hear another voice.

"I just started playing today and I don't know any songs." I confess.

"So what, you were brilliant, do it again." A male voice calls out.

I open my case and pull out my instrument. I start playing a soft melody, and words start to spill out of my mouth.

An hour later I walk home, my case heavy, with dollars and coins. I got many tips, but I wouldn't tell Father it Elizabeth, for they would spend it almost immediately. I slip upstairs, hoping not to run into Father. I hear him playing and breathe a sigh of relief. I put on my night gown and turn of my lamp and close my eyes, humming a tune.
