I head to my room and shrug off my rags and replace them with a clean suit. I head down for dinner and see that the family is already there. I give Christine a peck on the cheeks and see that Lillian is wearing a new dress. I start to get angry then I stop remembering. I start to eat.
"So how was work?" Christine's asks.
"Well." I say. Not elaborating.
"Father I went to the boardwalk today." Elizabeth pipes up.
"Oh what did you see?" He says, shifting in his seat.
"We got dresses, and saw the ferris wheel.I saw a bunch of freaks, but the worst one was in the middle." Liz ( Elizabeth ) says. Father cringes.
"He looked just like Lillian, must have the same, filthy disease." She says. Mother looks like she's about to choke.
"Apologize" Lillian screams at her.
"No." She crosses her arms over her chest and I hear Lilian whisper something about wanting to rip her head off.
"Now. Apologize, now, before I make you." Lillian growls.
"No you can't make me." Elizabeth says. I see Lillian sit back down, a smug look on her face.
"My dear Liz ( she hated that ) you haven't a been eating that much. What are you getting to big for your dresses?" I see her face go white. Lilian crosses her arms over her chest, waiting.
"Shut up! Father make her shut up!" She whines.
"Why don't you." I reply, disgusted by the way she was acting. Then it hit me,I always acted that way to Lillian my poor, sweet child. I look at her, still wearing the hat. It must be uncomfortable. I made her wear it. In her own home. I push my chair back and got up. I enter my office and start to cry.
