A/N: LISTEN, I know Harry's The Boy Who Lived, but I'm trying my best to make the reader gender neutral, so The One Who Lived it is. Don't kill me, I swear I know my stuff.
You squatted down to take some of the shock off of your legs, looking around you. You were impressed by how effective your technique was for fighting against big groups of ghouls. You hadn't even gotten hurt yet! You just hoped the situation was the same for the quinx, wherever they were.
You had given up searching for them a few minutes ago after you had checked everywhere for them. Maybe their teachers just forced them to stay in class...
You doubted Urie would have listened to them, however. He must be walking around the school, you were sure of it. And for now, you weren't worried for him. He was strong. Stronger than you, actually. As long as no SS rated ghouls show up, he'll be able to deal with everything just fine.
What was really worrying you, however, was the lack of CCG investigators. Where was the back up? If you actually were 'protected' like Haise had told you, wouldn't there be a squad right now making sure you get to safety? Yes. And is there a squad with you right now making sure you get to safety? No. Urie's going to be so pissed when this ordeal is over...
You turned to the side, looking out the window to change the view. Seeing dead bodies and blood all the time had done something weird to your eyes... Maybe it was too much red for you. Once you glanced outside, things became clearer. No wonder there was no one from the CCG here! The school was literally surrounded by ghouls. Out in the horizon, you believed investigators were fighting to gain access to the school, however.
But good golly, how the hell did Aogiri get this big? It's like an entire country of ghouls. You don't know what the leader did to get so many ghouls on their side, but they're doing something right. You wouldn't be surprised if they happened to be some political person. Wow, an Aogiri executive running the country... Scary...
You were snapped out of your thoughts when you heard the distant yell of yet another 'there they are' reached your ears. What were you? A star? Were you Harry Potter all of a sudden? The One Who Lived? Because you swear even Voldemort wouldn't be this hellbent on making sure you died with the rest of your family. The guy attacked once a year and this was basically Aogiri's third attack in two months! You were starting to get really sick of it.
This group seemed a bit bigger than the others. Maybe sixteen or so? It doesn't matter, you'll still take them all down.
They all lunged towards you, ready to tear you to shreds. But you were ready before them. You jumped high in the air, already swiping your transparent kagune at two ghouls (had to take out the strongest-looking ones first, after all). Both of their heads flew off (and thank goodness that they weren't those ghouls who had freakishly good regeneration powers). The two bodies limply hit the floor as you jumped from ghoul to ghoul in an attempt to kill them all.
Halfway through the group, the intensity of the fight seemed to have climbed up a few ranks. You wouldn't have noticed if it weren't for how heavy your kagune seemed to have gotten. Even when you attempted to look at it, the curved glass effect seemed to have gotten bigger, taking up a larger portion of your sight. It might be the kakuja side of your rinkaku finally acting up. You had been looking forward to it for a while.
But the struggle was real. You thought you had gotten rid of the stronger ones at the beginning, yet they seemed to have tricked you. Huh, Aogiri ghouls were smarter than what you were expecting, to disguise the weaker ghouls as the stronger ones. Now you were stuck with six ghouls that probably had the potential to kick your ass into oblivion.
The adrenaline gave you and your kagune a boost, however. With a few well placed swings of your kagune, the number of ghouls still alive had plummeted to three. The three strongest ghouls, actually. It was a tough fight, you had to admit. Even with your new found kauja, things weren't looking good for you.
As you analyzed their technique and fighting styles, looking for a flaw, you realized that their attacks weren't exactly... Timed. You should have expected that from ghouls like them, however. They probably don't train in teams of three all the time... But it's something you could use to your advantage. Make them trip over each other and use the moment of disbalance to kill them.
And so you did. You used a few feints here, a kick behind the knee there and the tallest ghoul's knees buckled, making them fall to the ground with a loud and alarmed grunt. The ghoul behind him tripped over his body, landing straight on your outstretched kagune, which went right through him. The third one stopped, confused as to what exactly happened. You used that moment of hesitance to kill them once and for all. Finally, you walked back to the ghoul who was lying on the ground. It tried to beg you for mercy but you didn't listen. Instead, you crushed its skull with your foot.
"Try not to hunt me down next time. Maybe then I would have spared you." You mocked before rubbing your foot on the ground in an attempt to take off the blood (not that it actually helped, it just made your shoe squeak).
You sat back and took a peak at the new mess you made. Pride surged through you once you realized that you had just taken down a group of sixteen ghouls by yourself.
All of a sudden, Rank 1 (Y/N) (L/N) sounds like a very, very appealing title.
"Anyone else wants a piece of me?!" You screeched into the emptiness of the hall. "Come and get it! You'll end up like your little friends here! All SIXTEEN of them!" You were getting full of yourself, but that's okay. It'll help you in battle, you believe...
As soon as you finished boasting, a tall figure turned the corner and stopped in front of you, eyeing you down. The man looked like he was albino, with his red eyes and snow white hair... And that mask..! That's the one Sassan said Tatara had-- Oh, fuck.
There's no way you could take on THE Tatara. There's absolutely no way.
The tall ghoul gave you a mocking glance once it noticed how your confident aura deteriorated into nothing once you recognized him.
If you fought him, you'd die. And you can't die, because you promised Urie you'd live on, no matter what the cost. Even if it meant bailing or running away.
And so you did. You turned around and skedaddled out of there as quickly as possible, but...
His footsteps followed closely behind you.
