You walked into the unlocked house with ease, surprised to see three teens about your age already sitting down in the nearby living room.
It had been a few days since your surgery now, and you had been released just earlier with the order to show up here. Apparently this is where you were going to live from now on, with these guys.
You took off your shoes at the entrance and hesitantly made your way to the living room, opting to sit on the floor near the couch. You took in the three teens, recognizing the one farthest away from you as the dude that glared at you in the hospital hallway, a few days ago.
Seeing him up close, he just looked like the kind of guy that hates everyone for no reason. Maybe there was nothing personal about that glare after all.
"Er... Do you know where Mr. Sasaki went?" A boy with green hair hesitantly asked you. He seemed a bit shy, although there was an intelligent glint in his eyes.
"I have no idea, I would have thought he'd be here." You answered, shrugging. "Maybe he's at the hospital to finalize some things-"
"Ah, I'm here! Sorry for the wait!" A familiar voice exclaimed from the front door, causing the four of you to turn your attention to Haise who hurried into the house, almost panting. "I'm sorry I'm late."
"It's alright..." The green haired male assured, slightly shaking. Maybe Haise's sudden entrance scared him. The poor thing...
"Right, so uh..." Your superior counted the four of you before frowning. "There's one missing..." He muttered, but then shrugged while sighing an 'oh, well'.
"Get ready for another jumpscare soon." You whispered to the shaking boy, who let out a discreet giggle.
Haise clapped his hands and walked into the living room. "Look at you lot! The Quinx squad!" He smiled proudly. "Did you all introduce yourselves to each other?" Once he noticed you shake your head, he sighed. "Don't be shy! Anyways, this is Saiko Yonebayashi." He pointed towards the small girl with blue hair. "Tooru Mutsuki," The boy with green hair. "Kuki Urie," The guy with the two moles and the purple hair. "And (Y/N) (L/N)." He then pointed at you.
You nodded politely at the three quinxes in front of you.
"First of all, congratulations! Your surgeries were a success and you're officially all the world's first quinxes! Secondly, I would like to-" Haise was cut off by the loud slamming of the front door.
"The hospital held me back because of bullshit complications, I'm sorry!" A new voice exclaimed before rushing into the living room and nearly tripping on his own two feet. The blonde guy skid to a stop in front of Haise and apologetically bowed before realizing what kind of first impression he made and turning beet red.
"And this is Ginshi Shirazu." Haise finished. "I'm glad you could make it, I'll talk with the doctors later to see what went wrong. For now, you can sit down with your new colleagues."
You could already tell that guy was going to get into a lot of stupid trouble. And that you might be there with him when it happens. Not to mention that he had cool ass shark teeth. Friend material right there.
"As I was saying," Haise started again once Ginshi had settled down near you on the floor. "You're now officially CCG investigators, but that doesn't mean you're done with school." Ginshi let out a nearly inaudible growl that didn't go unnoticed by just about everyone in the room. "Yes, yes, I know, but school is important, and you're all going. Luckily, you're all in junior year so it might not be so bad! You'll have each other to lean on!"
"Sounds like fun. On the week, we're normal students and on the weekend we murder ghouls for a living." You sarcastically said. "I'm not complaining or anything, just saying it sounds funny."
"Yes, well, we're expecting that you can balance your school life well with your training. After all, we need one of you to surpass Arima."
"Won't be me." Saiko sighed, leaning back into the couch and almost fusing with it on the spot. Dear lord, she's so small...
Haise sighed before continuing on. "I've got a few rules to mention here and there, but that can wait until later. For now, how about you five just get to know each other? I have some stuff to do..."
You nodded and watched as Haise left the room before turning to your new squad. "Anyone else here because they didn't have anywhere else to go?"
Saiko, Ginshi and Tooru lifted their hands, surprised that they weren't the only one lifting it. Only Kuki remained motionless, almost uninterested in the conversation. He still stayed with the group, however, so it must not be all bad for him.
"So this is some kind of scientific orphanage then?" You asked, getting up to sit closer to the group.
"What happened to your family?" Shirazu curiously asked before regretting his words and frantically shaking his head. "I mean! You don't need to answer, but if you don't mind, I guess it'd be a good way to warm up to each other..?"
"It sounds like a good idea," Tooru agreed. "For me, my parents and older brother were killed by a ghoul when I was around twelve, so I was taken in by the CCG. I just got the offer a few days ago and I mean, I have nothing left to lose, so... I might as well do something useful with my life, right?"
"I'm in the exact same situation." You pipped up. "My parents got killed by a ghoul a little over a week ago. It was this or the orphanage. Nice to see we're in the same boat. What about you two?" You asked, turning towards Shirazu and Saiko.
"My mom made me, but she doesn't really care what happens to me." Saiko sighed. Ouch, that must hurt, when your own parents don't care about your wellbeing... "She just wants the money that comes with the job, I didn't really get a choice..."
You all (minus Urie) cringed at Saiko's story but refrained from saying anything remotely close to 'I'm sorry'. Huh, maybe you all knew how it felt like to be pitied from head to toe.
"My dad committed suicide when my mom left him. Got no where else to go since she ditched us and I need money fast, so... Yeah. I guess we're all fucked up one way or another, huh?" Ginshi added, smirking.
"Like a dysfunctional bunch. We're not gonna get very far." You answered before turning your attention to the quinx who hadn't talked ever since you walked in. "And you, Kuki?"
"My father was an investigator when I was younger and was killed during a fight with the Owl." He monotonously answered.
Yeah, a dysfunctional bunch you were.
"I feel like we're gonna have fun." You said.
"We got the worst out of this world, we hit rock bottom. So things can only get better from here on, no?"
