The Weeping Willow

The weeping willow in her midst decided not to show
What thoughts ran through her head, she couldn't know
For the willow that wasn't there, suspended by a snare
Right above where she had sat an hour ago

"I love you," he smiled again, at the oddest of times, although
How could she have known the becoming of the willow?
Those words he had boldly dared, those of loving despair
Becoming her forever nightmare one hour ago.

The shadows looming in her mind were set aglow
"Join the willow." The opportunity they bestowed
She agreed nothing would compare, for she could be free as air
If only her body weren't impaired since an hour ago.

So the girl sat by his feet, helpless as time was slow
Weeping with the weeping willow
Where hope had died, she wouldn't say goodbye
To where had gone the willow's butterfly one hour ago?
