I invited Rhonda and Jason to my family's house for Thanksgiving. Jason wanted to come along because his family doesn't do Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving week, they do it the week after. I was a little skeptic about Jason coming along because I am still not sure how my dad will react when I show up with Jason Shinzo in his house.

I sat in my living room with Rhonda and Jason. "Okay, Jasey. Here's the thing.." I sighed stressfully, "..if you come along, you'll meet my father." Jason stared at me like I was nuts. "You know my father is the Mayor right?" I asked.

Jason raised a brow at me in question, " I know, Kuma. I've met him twice. In meeting with the City of Commerce for my company's startup, and then that time in the photo you saw, which was the Commerce Award Ceremony."

"My dad is really good with remembering faces with everyone he meets."
Jason stared at me smiling. I continued, "..and I am terrified of what he will say when he sees me with one his business people."

Jason sat back in his seat, "Kuma, you're making this way bigger a deal than it really is. You've got to calm down."

"But it is. You don't understand, Jase."

Rhonda started to get up from her chair, "Yeah, I'm just gonna go in and brew some.." Jason motioned and pointed at her seat, "No no..I want you right here when I ask this." Jason said bluntly. Rhonda smiled and plopped herself right back down slowly on the single sofa.

Jason leaned forward into me and took my hands into his. I stared him right in the eyes. His emeralds staring sincerely back at mine.
"Katana.. let me ask you this. Are we or are we not friends?" He asked.

I wanted to scream No. You are more than just a friend.
"We are." I answered with a smirk.

"Ok. Have we slept together?"

No. But but I'll let you take me right now if you offered it.
"No."

"Ok. Are we together? Like, boyfriend and girlfriend?"

Jason Shinzo, again, I'll take it if you'd offer it.
"No."

"But we are friends. Correct?"

Friends don't go to first base in a bathroom and pretend everything is normal afterwards. But...
"Yes."

"Okay. Then you have nothing to worry about, Kuma. We're all friends having a nice Thanksgiving with your family. Right?" He smiled.

..and yet, I wish we could be more.
"Right." I said quietly.

Rhonda leaned back slowly in her sofa with a shit eating grin in awe. She had to have known exactly what was going through my mind. It's a telepathic thing that best friends have. Jason gently let go of my hands. He leaned in with his hands clasped to his chin not taking his eyes off of me. The piercing look fluttering from his eyes made me think that he knew exactly what my answers meant.

I wasn't too assured of Jason's feelings with his blunt questions and my blunt answers. Maybe they were too real for me. I didn't even have to ask Jason to pretend we were.. nothing, he just took over this whole conversation as if he was reading my mind.

My heart hurt a little since Jason and I have been hanging out like normal friends lately.

When we arrived at my Parents, my brothers greeted us at the door. "Guys, you remember Rhonda, and this is Jason. Rhonda, you remember my brothers. Jason, these are my brothers, Sam and Kenji."

"Jason? As in Jason Lew Shinzo?" Kenji enquired.

Jason laughed, "Yeah, thats me."

Kenji looked starstruck, and then narrowed his eyes at me. He shifted them back to Jason, "That's awesome, man. Can't wait to hang out this week. We got a lot planned for Katana."
