Years after that coincidental meeting at the grocery store, you and Steve had began a very loving relationship. Like all couples you had your ups and downs, but after two years together you had found a nice pace to life. Everything was falling into place, you lived with Steve in the Avengers towers and worked from home. You had been living in the tower for a few months when you had a suspicion something was off, you were constantly nauseous, always having to spend at least half an hour in the bathroom hovering over the toilet bowl. It was one of those mornings when you heard a gentle knocking at the door.
You slowly raised your head out of the bowl, "Come in." You grumbled as you rubbed your eyes. Steve peeked his head in, his brow furrowed. He entered the bathroom and began to rub comforting circles on your back.
"Still feeling sick doll?" He said to you, eyes filled with worry and a small smile at the corner of his lips. You just grumbled a bit and nodded, slowly using his toned arms to stabilize yourself before standing up.
You walked over to the sink and began to rinse your mouth out. "Yeah, I'm thinking I should go to the doctor." You said, muffled by the toothbrush now feverishly scrubbing that acrid taste out of your mouth. As you spat the last bit of toothpaste out of your mouth Steve came up behind you and nestled his arms around your waist. Placing a gentle kiss on your neck. You giggled softly and turned around to face him. You savored his sweet scent as you cradled your head in his chest and felt his strong arms envelop you. As soon as Steve reached down to grab your hips you felt his pocket vibrate.
Steve groaned, begrudgingly pulled away from you, and checked his phone. "Duty calls?" You pipped up, giving him a small half smile.
Steve gave you a sympathetic look, "You know me so well." He states before giving you a quick peck on your forehead before dashing out of the door. You wondered what his mission is this time? Your mind started to wander back to that night, the first time you saw Steve, your guardian angel. He was always so headstrong, always wanting to do what's right and help others. Your heart swelled, you were so lucky to be with a man like that. You glanced at the clock, damn, already noon. You decided to call your doctor, better figure out what's wrong sooner rather than later. Luckily they had an opening today due to a cancellation, so you grabbed your purse and threw on your shoes.
You sat in the eerie quiet of the waiting room, suddenly feeling a wave of nervousness overcome you as your foot instinctively started tapping away at the floor. The woman at the desk was giving you a nasty look. Your mind began to race, what if something serious was wrong? I mean, you'd never experienced nausea this bad! Before you could get too ahead of yourself with 'what ifs' your doctor peeked her head through the door, "____ _____, I'm ready for ya!" She grinned, and you shook off your nerves and followed her into the exam room.
She greeted you warmly, "Hi _____, what brought you in today?" You smiled back at her as you sat on the chair.
You placed your hands in your lap, "Well, I've been having this awful nausea almost every day, and I just feel super heavy and bloated all the time. I don't know what's going on with my body, I haven't changed my diet or sleeping habits or anything!" You explained to her.
Your doctor looked up from the clipboard in her hand, thinking for a moment, "Is there any chance you could be pregnant?" She inquired.
You thought for a moment before nodding, and couldn't help but blush a bit. "I'm gonna go run a few tests on your urine sample from earlier." Your doctor stated before promptly exiting the room.
Your eyes widened, pregnancy! How could you not have thought of that? It fits most if not all of your symptoms! I guess Steve's Super Soldiers weren't deterred by decades on ice, you thought to yourself. If this was true, what would it mean for you and Steve? Were you ready for a family? He always has to leave so suddenly. Does Steve even want children right now? All of these worries and 'what ifs' began flooding your mind as you waited anxiously in the exam room.
