I couldn't quite remember the last time we honestly had a rumble together. All seven of us. Now there's only six. We lost Johnny to a fire, eh... if you read my book, you'll understand what all happened. Damn, things have changed. Darry is working more, Dally is knocking up girls when he gets the chance to. Two-Bit... well he's actually the same but a little over protective since Macy shown up. Steve, heck there's nothing to say about him. He hates me and think I'm stupid. Soda, he acts like I'm not around anymore and hjs head is always thinking about Macy. Golly, if I had a penny for everytime Soda thought about Macy, I'd be richer than the socs.
"Ponyboy!" A girl's voice was heard from behind me. I was almost home, the anger was all washed out of me so I was pretty cooled. I turned arpund to face Macy. She has been following me this whole time and I didn't know it.
"Hey Macy. Why aren't you at the pool party?" I asked. I was becoming way too nosey and I was missing Cherry. Wishing she was here.
"Um, well... I don't know. Hey, I have question so shut your trap and listen!" Macy smiled. Damn, she was becoming a greaser everyday. It was scaring me too. "So you know Dally and Soda really well right?"
"Um yeah, Soda's my brother."
"Ok, so," She started to walk down the street with me towards my house. "I need to know the differences between your brother and Dally. One day, I fall for Dally, the other--"
"Lemme guess, my brother Soda?" I interrupted her. She nodded and kept walking with me. We reached the front of my house and I walked up to the door.
"Yes, I just trust you. Like.... you're honest and you speak the honest and sometimes brutal truth." Macy eyed me as we walked into my house. Boy was I glad to be home. I mentioned her to sit down. "You want a drink? We have chocolate milk!"
"Sure, Thanks!" Macy called from the living room. I went into the cabinet and grapped mum's favorite glass. It was an actuanl glass cup with carved designs in it. But I knew I couldn't let Macy drink out of it, so I looked for another cup. I grabbed a regular glass and poured the chocolate milk inolto from the refrigerator.
I walked into the living room and handed it too her.
"I'm just gonna speak the truth here now and don't think I'm favoring anybody. But, you want it so here it is. Dallas Winston is a crack head fool. Tried killing himself multiple times after Johnny died. He's a jerk, back stabbing scavage in my eyes. He brings in a new girl every night. He knocks all the girls he can get his hands on. But I also consider him a brother because he's part of the gang. Now Soda, he's the complete opposite. He'll comfort you instead of force you. He'll do things when your ready, he's nice and kind hearted. Here's the other thing, you're the first girl he's truly fell in love with since Sandy. He haven't loved anybody and when my brother falls in love with someone, he won't stop until that person betrays him. But it's your choice. Go for Dally and his rudeness to all living things on Earth, or go for Sodapop Curtis. You'll know who is right for you after you really think about it."
I was proud of my speech. Macy sat there, wide eyed and in awe she'll have a glimmer in her eyes and a hiden smile across her lips. Why won't she just tell him that she's sorry?
Macy's POV
Wow. Ponyboy basically knocked some knowledge into me about love. Even though his speech was about Dalky and Soda, but there was a hiden message in there. Ponyboy basically told me to go with what the heart says and not what the mind thinks.
"Wow, Ponyboy. I think I know who." I mumbled. Ponyboy smirked and nodded his head."Oh I've known since the time you got here. Macy, just tell him. Soda'll be so happy." Ponyboy had a ripple of happiness in his eyes. He knew that Soda would forgive me after the stupid decision. My heart was racing, I wanted to go go go. But I knew I couldn't. I'd wait here, until all the boys got back and I'll talk to Soda and there, I'll finally let him in.
"I'll tell him. Can I wait here 'til he gets back?" I asked. Ponyboy nodded and headed for the kitchen. I turned on the t.v. and watched Mickey Mouse. It remined me of when Mickey and I had our first barrel race competition.
"Ugh, Macy! You forgot the polo wraps!" My mom called from inside the truck. I hitched Mickey to the trailer, the saddle already on his muscular body. Mickey was relaxed and ready to go to work for me. God bless his heart, I loved this horse.
"Mom, I know! That's why I brought out the polo boot wraps instead of just the wraps!" I called back to her.
I could hear ger sigh and check her watch.
"God almighty! Macy Louise, you better get that damn horse ready, they're puttin' the barrels up! It's almost time!" My mom hoped out of the truck and rushed towards the stands.
I was ruching around, braiding Mickey's mane and tail. I tacked up his face, taking off the halter and replacing it with a bridle and a soft bit.
I hop on Mickey, and grap the reins. We trotted all they way to the practice pin and loped around warm-up barrels. I was number twenty-four and they were already in the teens. I turned Mickey around to face the gate ready to push towards the first barrel. His breathing was soft and I was a little nervous. But Mickey wasn't, the beautiful buckskin loved the excitement and noises.
It was our turn, the girl before us knocked the third barrel down so we waited 'till the rodeo clowns fixed. The announcer called my name, Mickey's registered name, and our number. With one gentle kick to Mickey's side, we were off. The wind rushing into my face, I grapped the saddle horn and we we tuened left first around the first barrle.
"Nice first barrel!" I whispered to Mickey. He snorted and we galloped to the second, I pushed him a little harder, grabbed the staddle horn and we turned right. We had a nice second barrel.
I pushed him hard now, no going easy, we were going for the gold. More like money. We were going around the third barrel, it all happened so fast, a dig got loose from a camper and ran out into the arena. Mickey got spooked and slipped. He fell on top of me, crushing me. He eventually got and I did as well. We worked so hard for that first barrel race and we failed.
That's when my mom started looking for a new horse for me. And we may even sell Mickey...
