"What's the plan?" Loki whispered as he stood alongside Thor nestled behind a desolate hallway in the S.H.I.E.L.D. base.

"We need to get past the guards on the west wing." Thor replied. "Fury has them shifting in rounds, so if we can get through them without being seen, we're home free."

"This would be so much easier if I could just teleport us in there." Loki huffed, following his brother down the hallway.

"Welcome to the rest of the world." The god of thunder chuckled. "Normal people can't make things happen with a snap of their fingers."

"Why do you think I've been so miserable?" The raven haired brother sighed. "Let's just hurry up and get out of here."

Thor and Loki quietly crept down the hall, careful to make their footfalls as silent as possible. Once they reached the very edge of the west wing, they came across a door armed with two guards.

"How long until they shift?" Loki whispered under his breath, loud enough only for his brother to hear.

"Any minute now." Thor replied. "They usually change on the hour."

Right on que, the two guard retreated down the opposite hall, giving both brothers an ample opportunity to slip through the door. Thor was first, followed by Loki, sliding through the heavy door and into a long hallway.

"Where is she?" Loki asked.

"The very last room, and hurry." Thor urged. "We'll only have a few minutes before the new guards take their post."

Loki went ahead of Thor and pushed open the door at the very end of the hall. As he stepped into the room, his eyes slowly grew accustomed to the dim teal lights. The space was cold and a little bit damp. At the center of the room was a hospital bed where a young girl, no older than her early twenties, lay unconscious. Various needles were inserted into her arms and she wore an oxygen mask on her face. Her breathing seemed shallow as Loki approached, and he hovered a hand over the inside of her wrist, feeling for a pulse. It was weak, but it was there.

"It seems we're too late." Thor gasped, his eyes scanning over her form in sadness.

Loki didn't respond, simply running the pad of his thumb across her pale skin. He shivered, feeling the power that ran through her veins. It was the same power that now lay dormant in his. The difference was, it was the power of a god, not a human, and if he didn't teach her how to control it right away, it would surely kill her. Loki pressed the palm of his hand against her cold cheek, closing his eyes as he concentrated. He may have lost his physical powers, but he still had his telepathic abilities. That was the one thing Odin didn't take from him.

"Loki, what are you doing?" Thor asked in a concerned tone, his eyes flicking back towards the hall.

"We can't take her off these machines and get these needles out of her until I'm sure she can handle it." Loki replied, eyes still closed.

"How will you know?"

"I can communicate with her telepathically, let her know that we can help her. If she accepts it, then we'll know she's strong enough to fight this."

"Okay, well hurry." Thor nodded. "I'm going to watch the door. Bring her out when you're done."

Loki nodded quickly, focusing on his connection to the young girl. He could feel her powers. They were just as strong as his. But she wasn't in control. She was afraid, scared, alone. He had to do everything in his power to give her a reason not to be.

Just when he thought she might not fight, he felt her shear will beam brighter, pushing back against the fear and the loneliness. Loki grinned, beginning to pull the needles from her bruised arms and the oxygen mask from her face. Slipping his arms underneath her inert body, he proceeded down the hall to meet his brother.

"Atta girl." Loki whispered quietly in her ear as her breathing became more frequent.

When Thor spotted her in his brother's arms, he couldn't open the door fast enough. The two gods barely had enough time to escape before the next two guards returned to take their post.

The second Loki felt his feet hit the ground outside, he breathed a sigh of relief. They weren't free yet, but this was a milestone.

"We did it." Thor smiled, walking alongside his brother as they carried the girl through the woods.

"It appears we have." Loki responded, watching the girl's chest fall and rise as she breathed. "But it won't be long before they figure out she's missing."

"I'll have to return to the base." Thor sighed. "They mustn't suspect anything suspicious from my end."

"That's the smart move." The god of mischief nodded. "What's your next play?"

"I need to figure out where to hide her. Surely S.H.I.E.L.D. will find us wherever we go. It has to be somewhere they'd never suspect anyone to take her."

"How about underground tunnels that only I can open?" Loki grinned mischievously.

"What?" Thor questioned. "How do you-?"

"Where do you think I hid to plan my attack on New York?"

"You were right under our noses."

"And that's exactly what we need to do now."

"Very well then." Thor chuckled. "Take me to your secret underground lair."

"With pleasure." Loki smirked.
