"Conner what are you doing here?" I say in confusion

"oh-uh I was heading back home" he said while pointing to a car parked near the curb "and I saw you crying so I wanted to come and check up on you...are you okay?" he questions

"umm..."

should I tell him about Sam's problem?

"my uh best friend-From Australia- he, umm, he has stage 3 leukemia...and today I came back from a dat-- I mean once I came back home today I saw him coughing out blood and he had s-so many bruises on his face and arms" I say

was I about to say date? No, no, no me and Blake only went out as friends, nothing more

"oh my god, I'm so sorry, I pray for him to get better" he says while giving me a side hug

"it fine, I pray for him too" I say while hugging him back

"So he's at the hospital right now?" He asks

I just nod my head

We sat there in peaceful silence until I got a call

I saw the caller Id and it was Brian who was calling me

"Ava? Where are you? Why aren't you home? It's six! Mom, Dad, Sofia and I were getting worried and we saw blood near the stair case are you alright?, where's Sam? He isn't in his room" Brian questions

"Umm I'm at the hospital right now" I respond

"What! Why!?" He asks in a worried tone

"Don't worry nothings wrong with me, it's Sam, his condition is getting worse, I found him coughing blood earlier" I say in a raspy voice while looking up at the sky so that I don't cry

"Shit is he alright now?" He asks

"Yeah, well kind of, the doctor said he might not...make it" my voice cracks at the end

"so are you going to stay at the hospital for the night?" He questions

"No, I'll come back home, just...just give me a few more minutes" I say while looking down at the ground

"Okay bye, love you, stay safe" he says

"Love you too" I say and then I end the call

I look back at Conner to see him looking down at the floor playing with a rock near his feet

"Hey um Conner, thanks for...this, I guess. You should go home it's getting late" I say

"Do you want me to drop you?" He asks

"No, it's fine I have my car, thanks anyways" I say while hugging him

"No problem" he says while I release from the hug

He smiles at me and walks to his car

I look back at the hospital building and I sigh while walking into the building

I should see Sam before I leave

I ask the lady sitting behind the desk if I can see Sam and she replies with a nod and tells me the room number

I find the room and enter

first thing I see is lots, and lots of wires attached to his body

He was right now sleeping and the room was dead silence except for the heart monitor beeping in the background

When I hold his hand, his hands were ice cold

I bring his hand up to my mouth and I give it a small peck

" I am so, so sorry Sam, I should have spent more time with you, I shouldn't have been hanging out with my other friends while you were over, I should have spent time with you, I am so sorry, Gosh I'm such a horrible friend, I don't deserve you at all" I sob while bringing his hand to my chest

I look at his face and his face looked so peaceful and relaxed

I sigh and kiss his forehead and walk back to the door to exit the room

I remind myself to visit him tomorrow

I walk out of the building and head for my car I start up the engine

I don't head home but instead drive around to clear my mind for a few hours

Once I reach home I look across the yard to see Blake's car missing

Where is he?

He's probably gone for a party, it's Friday anyways, it's not that I care, he can do whatever the heck he wants

I open the front door of my house and see Brian sleeping on the sofa, all the lights are off

Mom, Dad and Sofia are probably asleep too

I walk up to Brian and shut the tv that was playing a weird show about puppets I try not to laugh but miserably fail which causes Brian to wake up

Why was He watching this anyways?

"Ava? What are you doing here at this time? Wait...what's the time?" He asks

"Uh it's 11:30" I look at the clock hanging on the wall then giving him a cheeky grin

"What!, you came home now!?" He whisper yells but you could see the small smile playing on his lips

"Uh—yeah-'bout that...I kind of, maybe, lost track of time" I say while grinning at him

He just smiles and shakes his head

"Okay fine, go to bed it's late" he says while he gets up from the sofa

We both head up the stairs and once I reach my room I grab the handle but I stop in my tracks

"Oh by the way, Brian?"

"Yeah?" He says while stopping and turning towards me

"Why were you watching a show about puppets" I say while laughing lightly

"What, puppets are funny okay" he says in a offended way

"Whatever you say" I smile  while entering my room and closing the door before he could answer
