"I'm sorry for putting you in that situation," Kihyun whispered, knees pulled up to his chest in an awkward fashion as he sat sideways on the couch, facing Hyunwoo.
The older male smiled and shook his head, his chuckle almost rivaling Minhyuk's car noises in volume.
"I told you, I would go back and do the whole thing all over again - I mean it," he replied, and Kihyun smiled uneasily.
He still couldn't help but feel guilty for suddenly dragging Hyunwoo into this mess. If it were someone else, Kihyun knew he would definitely be done for. He actually considered himself lucky that Hyunwoo was such a decent human being otherwise he wouldn't have even had an excuse in the first place.
"Did you...mean everything you said in there?" The pink-haired male asked quietly, not particularly wanting Minhyuk to hear. "Like, it wasn't just an act, was it?"
The boy had cried as soon as he saw Kihyun, jumping on him and refusing to let him go even to the point where Kihyun had to sit in the back of the car with him so Minhyuk could still hold onto him.
Kihyun had no idea that Minhyuk had missed him that much, and it was also the teacher's first time meeting Hyunwoo's parents.
"You must be Kihyunie," Hyunwoo's father had said to him.
Kihyun laughed nervously. "It's actually Kihyun - Kihyunie's just what Minhyuk calls me."
"Oh, how sweet," his mother cooed, hand to her heart. "All Minnie's been doing is crying because he missed Kihyunie. He didn't even care about his father."
"Good to know," Hyunwoo grunted, ruffling Minhyuk's hair from where he was attached to Kihyun's chest. "You didn't miss Daddy, Min?"
Minhyuk just whined into Kihyun's shoulder, and the pink-haired male rubbed his back soothingly.
And now the boy had - finally - let himself detach from Kihyun, and while Kihyun loved Minhyuk's clinginess sometimes, he did appreciate some personal space.
"Of course I meant it all," Hyunwoo answered. "I can't act to save my life and I haven't been known to lie either."
"But everything you said..." The younger started, almost as if he couldn't find the right words. "It all sounded too good to be true. You said that I've been there for Minhyuk more than anybody else ever has-"
"Because you have," Hyunwoo interrupted, and Kihyun shifted impatiently.
"But have I really? What about you? You've definitely been there much longer than I have and have I really done much? It's my job to be nice to Minhyuk, that's what I'm paid to do-"
"Kihyun, slow down. You're rambling again," Hyunwoo leaned forward and cupped the pink-haired man's face. "Yes, it's your job but it wasn't your job to offer to help us when you did. You did that out of your own good will, which is a Hell of a lot more than anybody else had done. Just like you have your job, my job is to look after Minhyuk, to keep him healthy and safe and happy. That's my job as a parent, and I get no reward for doing that. But it seems like I did get a reward: you."
Minhyuk looked up at the two men briefly, noticing the sign of affection Hyunwoo was giving to Kihyun, and the boy felt left out.
Standing up, he placed his hands on Hyunwoo's knees, prompting the man to look down at him. He puckered his lips and Hyunwoo rolled his eyes playfully before leaning down to give his son a small peck on the lips.
Minhyuk then moved over to Kihyun, doing the same thing as he did to his father, and Kihyun hesitated before kissing him lightly as well.
The blonde grinned widely before sitting back down to play with his cars, and Kihyun raised an eyebrow at the boy.
"You know," Hyunwoo spoke up, causing Kihyun to look at him. "We basically just kissed - indirectly, of course."
"God, please don't say that," he laughed. "Now every time I see Minhyuk, I'll just be thinking about you."
"Well, he is my son, after all," the brunette chuckled. "Can I ask you something?"
"Of course," Kihyun answered, his soft voice sending something akin to shivers down Hyunwoo's spine.
"Would you get freaked out if I told you that I really really like you?" The older male asked bluntly, and if Kihyun was drinking something, he would've definitely spit it out.
"For real?" He asked, and Hyunwoo nodded. "No, I wouldn't get freaked out because I really really like you, as well. Like, you and Minhyuk are the closest I've ever come to a family."
Hyunwoo's hand instinctively found its way into Kihyun's pink locks, feeling their softness between his fingertips.
"Minhyuk loves you more than he loves me at this point," he teased, and Kihyun playfully slapped his arm.
The two sat in a somewhat comfortable silence for a few more minutes, Kihyun shuffling closer so that his knees were touching Hyunwoo's, the older male's hand stroking the hair at the nape of his neck.
"Is your hair naturally brown?" He asked, and Kihyun nodded. "I can see the roots. The colour contrast is actually really nice."
Kihyun turned to look at Hyunwoo, and he only then realised how close their faces were. All he had to do was tilt his head a bit and lean in and-
All of a sudden, Minhyuk started crying, and Kihyun practically fell out of Hyunwoo's grip due to his surprise.
"Hey, what's wrong, bub?" Hyunwoo asked, and Minhyuk held up his car, now broken.
"Oh, honey," Kihyun cooed, leaning down to wipe Minhyuk's tears from his face. "Tell you what: I'll buy you a new one tomorrow. How does that sound?"
Minhyuk nodded sadly, sniffling, and Hyunwoo frowned slightly.
"You don't need to do that," he whispered, and Kihyun smiled.
"Sure I do," he replied. "After all, I'm just as much of a father to Minhyuk as you are."
