Bouncing nervously on the balls of his feet, Kihyun wrapped his coat further around himself as he waited for Hyunwoo to answer the door.
He'd knocked already, and by what he could hear inside, Minhyuk was running up to the door.
A moment later, it opened and Hyunwoo stood behind Minhyuk who immediately tackled Kihyun in a hug.
"Hi, sweetheart," he chuckled, and Hyunwoo smiled at the sight. Kihyun looked up at Hyunwoo. "Hi."
"Hey," the brunette replied, picking up Minhyuk and stepping aside. "Come in."
Kihyun stepped into the house, shrugging off his coat and hanging it up on one of the coat racks, toeing off his sneakers and placing them under the shoe rack neatly.
"Daddy, can I play with Kihyunie?" The blonde asked, looking up at Hyunwoo. "Please~"
"You know it's time for bed, Minnie," Hyunwoo ruffled his boy's hair, and Minhyuk pouted.
"We can play tomorrow, Minhyuk," Kihyun reassured, and knelt down so he was at the same height as the boy. "Sleep well, ok? You need your sleep so you can grow up to be big and strong!"
"Then I can be bigger than Daddy!" The blonde jumped up and down, and Kihyun placed his hands on his waist.
"Easy there, tiger," Hyunwoo chuckled, leaning down to pick him up. "I'll be back in a few. Make yourself comfortable."
Hyunwoo smiled at Kihyun once more before disappearing off upstairs to tuck Minhyuk in. Kihyun noticed the bags under the older's males eyes and how the skin around them looked slightly irritated, and it brought about a slight pang in his chest.
He hated the thought of either Minhyuk or Hyunwoo crying. He never wanted them to be sad, as in his eyes they only deserved to be happy all the time.
Within about ten minutes, Hyunwoo was back downstairs, and Kihyun gave him a reassuring smile, patting the empty space on the couch next to him.
Hyunwoo sat down, looking at his hands instead of Kihyun. He knew what was coming.
"Minhyuk came to me today," the pink-haired male started quietly. "He was crying - really upset because you were crying yesterday."
"I'm sorry," the brunette apologised, and Kihyun giggled.
"You don't need to apologise," he reassured. "Just tell me what's wrong."
"It's a long story," Hyunwoo said, looking up at Kihyun to see only determination in his eyes. He was determined to help.
"I have all the time in the world," he smiled, and Hyunwoo took a deep breath.
"Originally, I was supposed to be a sperm donor for two of my lesbian friends. They wanted a child so bad, but they never told me that they wanted a girl," he began. "I thought - in the end - they would be fine with either, because a child is still a child.
"When Minhyuk was born, they didn't want him. I thought it was all a prank at first, but they were being deadly serious. I was there at the birth, and they just...pawned him off to me. He didn't even have a name them, and I named him.
"When I held him in my arms for the first time, he was so small, and I realised I could never look after him. I was young and I had no prior knowledge of how to look after a child. I thought about giving him up for adoption, but it hit me that he was my son. He had my last name.
"I couldn't just give up on him without even trying first. So I kept Minhyuk, and everyday I feel like I'm not giving him enough. I love him with all my heart, but I don't want him to grow up looking around him at all the children with two parents in a happy, loving family. I don't want him to know that his mothers didn't want him and blame himself for that.
"He's so much more than I deserve and I'm not giving him what he deserves. I can't be there all the time for him, I can't play with him when he wants me to, I can't do anything."
Silence drowned the two for a bit until Kihyun placed a hand on Hyunwoo's knee.
"Hyunwoo," he started. "What you did- what you've done for Minhyuk is so admirable and I can't imagine any man stepping up the way you did. And, by anyone's standards, Minhyuk has turned out amazing. He's an absolute credit to you and you should be more than proud.
"Minhyuk will have to find out one day, and when he finds out how cruel and heartless his mothers were, he'll be glad he didn't end up with them. He'll look up to you for the rest of his life, I know it, and he'll be so grateful to have you as his father. I wish I had a father like you..."
Hyunwoo let out a breath he didn't even know he had been holding in, and reached up to cup Kihyun's face.
"Thank you, Kihyun. Really," he said with so much sincerity, Kihyun could practically taste it.
"You know you don't have to thank me," he smiled. "Is this why you wanted me to move in? So Minhyuk can have two parents?"
"And also because I really do like you and think it would be nice to live with you," Hyunwoo added on, and Kihyun's smile grew.
"Ok then," he whispered, leaning in so his forehead was touching Hyunwoo's. "I'll move in with you."
"You will?" The older male asked in clarification, and Kihyun closed the gap between the two of them, kissing Hyunwoo gently.
"I will."
