"Just... a few more... minutes...." I mutter, waking myself up. I sit up in my bed covers and stretch, hitting something with my hands. I squint as I look up, my eyes adjusting to the morning light. It was my ceiling.
"Oh no," I said, all of my sleepiness draining away. Suddenly I fell, gravity pulling me back to where I belonged, though the springs in my bed sent me back into the air but only a little. I groan and roll over to my stomach.
"This needs to stop," I thought. "I don't think my back can take much more of this..."
I look over to my vanity to see a blanket on the chair and papers that were my homework on the top of the vanity, spilling over the sides.
Weird... I don't remember going to bed last night...
I grumble as if to argue with myself as I forced my body out of my bed and shuffled down the stairs to get some food. I got to the living room to find it empty. Walking to the kitchen, I find the same thing.
"Mom? Dad?" I called out into the house.
"Maybe they went to work...?"
I nearly jump out of my skin when I hear a scraping from the glass door that led to the backyard. I look over my shoulder to an ecstatic husky dancing around as soon as she had seen me. She softly howled and whimpered at me a few times.
"Geez girl..." I sighed, opening the door for her. "You scared the crap out of me." I knelt to pet her head only to get tackled to the ground and my face covered in slobber. "O-Ok-! Okay! S-Stop it!" I laughed, having to wrestle to get her off. I try to sit up but she suddenly plopped down on me like I were her dog bed. She places her head on my chest with a loving look in her eyes.
"Yes, I love you too Ginger," I tell her scratching behind her ears. "But I need to get up. Please?" She didn't budge. "Alright get up. Up." I said. She still laid on me, but I managed to roll out from under her and stand up. She tried to jump on me again but I moved out of the way, and when she tried again, I caught her paws and let them go soon after. She usually knows that this means to stop. And thankfully for me, she understood and stopped jumping. But now she sat at my feet, looking up at me.
I glance at the clock on the stove and see that it's about time for her to get her food. I go to the pantry and take out her bowl, and put some dog food in it. About the same time, I pulled out a bowl for myself and pour some cereal into it with milk. I put Ginger's food by the door as I sit down with my bowl at the table.
I start eating and notice a piece of paper with my name on it a short distance away from me. It's not my report card, is it? Picking it up, I saw it was a note from mom. Thank goodness. I didn't need another reason for them to ground me.
-Sireana,
Dad and I had to go to work early today. We'll be home in a
few hours and I'll call to check up on you soon.
<3/mom and dad
P.S. Dad was in the garden this morning and found some stones
he thought you might like. He put them in a box on your vanity.
Love you, see you soon.
I let the paper fall from my fingertips to the cold wooden table, a sigh leaving my lungs. I thought that's where they might be... I quickly ate my food and went back upstairs. As soon as I got in, I fell to my bed, not bothering to close my door.
