Behind Your Cape

For One Night

Author's note: I have come out of hiding! Took an overdue mental health break. But it's allowed me to come up with ideas for current and new stories. Love you all! Thank you all for sticking by me.

Kara and I changed out of our suits and into some sweats that I had. I loaned her a pair of mine, but they're a bit big on her. Though, it only adds more to how cute she is. J'onn let me know that it was ok that we took a break for the night. He's worried about Kara. As we all are. The thought of having to leave her scares me. She's already dealt with so much pain in her life. I want to help in all ways I can. To comfort her in this moment. If nothing else, I have tonight for just the two of us.

So, here we sat. My back against the arm of the couch, Kara laying on her stomach with her head on my chest and her body between my legs. Words are occasionally said, but what wasn't said with words is being exchanged through touches and stolen glances. I run my fingers through her hair and then down her arm. When I get to the top of her hand, she flips it over and intertwines our fingers. Her thumb rubs over the top of my hand right before her lips press against the smooth surface. I give her hand a light squeeze and kiss the top of her head. She releases my hand only to look at me and push herself up for her lips to meet mine. The kiss is soft, it expresses feeling words couldn't. In a way to say "I'm here" and "I would freeze time right now if I could". We pull apart slowly, eyes meeting each other. Eyes, much like lips, convey unspoken words. Words that scream "Forever" and "I'm home".

But like all good things, the moment comes to an end. An end brought by a rumble from the daughter of El's stomach. Causing both of us to laugh.

"A little hungry, Zor-El?"

She hides her face in my neck and lets out an embarrassed laugh, "A bit, yeah. But I don't want to move just yet."

"Ok. We can wait a couple minutes," I say as I wrap my arms around her.

The silence only lasts a minute before my own stomach betrays me and lets out a groan of hunger. I feel Kara's body shake with a quiet laugh.

"Oh don't you start with me."

"Looks like we better get food before it gets worse," Kara says as she pushes herself up.

She stands up with a stretch and I can't help but just look at her. She's the personification of Rao's light. Nothing on this world or any others could ever compare to how captivating she is. She relaxes from her stretch and tilts her head with a wondering look, much like a puppy, "What?"

I just smile and shake my head as I stand to look at her. I cup her face and her caring blue eyes meet mine as I say, "I was just thinking about how radiantly beautiful you are."

Her smile grows and I lean in and kiss her forehead. Her hands softly place themselves over mine. And as I pull away to look at her again, she turns her face and kisses my right hand.

"I love you."

Her eyes meet mine, "I love you too."

I smile at the rush of emotion caused by those words, "Rao, I don't think that I'll ever get sick of hearing that."

"Good, I don't plan on stopping. But what I DO plan on is food."

"Yes, of course," I lead her to the kitchen, "Anything particular in mind? I've got a bit of everything."

"Any pizza at all?"

I close the fridge, "I don't, but you know what, I'll just call and order some. What do you think?"

I turn and see her bright smile and her nod in approval. It's one of the many wonderful things that is so incredibly Kara. Her smile is one of a kind and beautiful. I would do anything to keep her smiling. Kara Zor-el, love of my life. Crazy thing, love. Hits you when you least expect it, but need it the most. I grab my phone to order. Kara comes and wraps her arms around me from behind as the person on the line picks up. She whispers what kind of pizza she wants and I make sure to order two large pizzas. When I hang up I turn in her arms and wrap my arms around her neck and she buries herself in my arms and chest, "You smell good."
