I jumped up and ran down the hall, my mind filled with throbbing pain due to the headache. I couldn't stop for a break. I need to make sure the journal is safe in the room.
You're probably thinking it's no big deal. Allen might break into my room and take my journal for Christ's sake!
I ran down the steps of the hotel. I can't bother using the elevator. What if there is somebody in there that also needs to get to another floor? What if the elevator takes too long? Well I'm not taking any chances! Germany will be very, very mad. And so will everybody else. But I don't care about them right now.
I pass by workers and guests, bumping into them here and there. I dropped something when I ran into a janitor that was sweeping the steps. We quickly exchanged apologys. I picked up whatever I dropped and he did the same. I flashed one last smile at him and continued running up the stairs. But when I smiled, he didn't have the same reaction as I thought. Instead he just smirked and waved back.
I reach another set of steps and look up at the number. Floor 12. I ran out into the long hallways and look at each room. Every room has a name plate with each country name. Why does my room have to be at the end of the hall!? I mentally cursed. I wonder what somebody's reaction would've been if they saw name plates with names like 'Greece' or 'Estonia' on them.
Of course, this part of the hotel has been blocked by tourists and guests. Only the staff and government know about us.
After a few minutes, my legs and lungs start growing tired. The 12th floor is just like a maze. I struggle remembering whether my room is to the left or right. And if I reached a dead end, I would have to start back again. A ringing from my pocket makes me halt. I take out my phone and look at the contact.
Oh boy.... it's Germany! What the hell am I supposed to tell him?! I gulp in fear and looked down at the taunting screen.
I press the green button. In a flash, a loud and booming voice was heard from the other end.
"AMERICA!! VHERE THE HELL ARE JOU?! I SAID JOU NEED TO BE BACK IN 5 MINUTES!! THE TIMER HAS ALREADY HIT THE 15 MINUTE MARK!! VHEN I TOLD FRANCE TO CHECK ON JOU, JOU VERE GONE!! EXPLAIN JOURSELF AND GET OVER HERE!!"
I wince slighty and chuckle nervously. "Hehe, well you see old friend. I decided to take short walk. For my headache you know. You need to chill, besides, I didn't know I was walking for that long!"
"JOU GOOD FOR NOTHING IDIOT!! I DON'T CARE ABOUT JOUR LITTE VALK!! JUST GET BACK HERE NOW!!"
I take a deep breath and said in a calm, well-mannered tone, "No."
I ended the call before letting Germany process my reply. I throw the phone and watch it smash against the wall. "I need to get a new one when I get back home." I mumble as I resume my search.
I see my room and fish for my keys in my pocket. I take them out but my panic won't let me hold them properly. I finally steadied my grip on the key, to realize it was the wrong one. I checked my other pockets and my shirt pocket. Once I triple checked everything just to be sure, my heart stopped.
The thing I dropped was my keys, and whatever that janitor dropped is now with me. I paced around in a circle in pure panic. Then I remembered something. I looked at the door and took a deep breath.
Then I kick it down, tearing it from it's own hinges. It's nice to be stronger for my own good. I ran inside, frantically scanning the area. The room is pretty small, so there really isn't much to check. Once I'm satisfied that nobody entered, I walk over to the desk. I look under the piles of scattered paper and check the drawers. I look under the chair and desk as well.
