Confused, he nodded.

"So you do remember me?" he frowned, and I swear I could see the smallest smile form on his lips.

"I never got your name, you kinda just ran away after you gave me that bread," I said with a laugh that dissapeared when I saw how much Peeta was struggling to not seem embarrassed, which only made it more obvious.

"Yeah sorry about that, I guess I was just shy," he cleared his throat.

"Thank you Peeta, really," I remarked as he finally looked me in the eye. "It meant a lot to me."

It did mean a lot to me. That day was a day a eight year old should never have exprienced.

I blinked away any sign of visual emotion and cleared my throat before I rose up. "Do you want coffee or tea or something?" I asked, ignoring the burning pain as good as I could by changing the direction the converation was heading towards.

"Tea would be great, thanks," he smiled.

"Sure." I said as took water from the sink into the kettle.

I took the few seconds of silence before the kettle started beeping to try to calm myself down. Closing my eyes and inhaling and exhaling deeply.

It seemed easy, but it was so close to impossible. Once I closed my eyes, I escaped the present and I swear I could hear my fathers yelling all the way from downstairs. I was used to that. Hearing my parents yell at each other, but that day the shouts ended abruptly. They never stopped like that, it wasn't normal.

Seconds later I heard someone run into my room. Her whole body was shaking of fear, and the tears that was streaming down her face wouldn't stop. As she drove me to school that day, the bruise was only growing darker and bigger.

It scared me how well I rememered it. Every damn detail. And now, that's all I have left.

"Katniss, are you okay?" Peeta snapped me back to reality. Back to the present.

I quickly turned my head, "Yeah. Do you want sugar or honey in your tea?"

He shook his head, "No thanks, but are you sure you're okay?"

"I'm fine," I lied, forcing a smile.

After a few exhales I managed to get the pictures and voices in my head go away, and I was set back in to reality.

I took the cup of tea and my cup of coffee to the table and sat down.

Peeta looked at me for a long time before he started speaking, as if he was searching for something and it was fairly uncomfortable.

"Is it okay that I bring a friend over today?" he asked, probably giving up.

"It's as much your home as mine, so of course I don't mind."

"Uhh.. okay, thank you. What do you want for dinner?"

I let out a small laugh, I couldn't believe how normal that sounded.

"What?" Peeta asked.

"It's just weird I guess, I barely know why and now we live together." I smiled.

"Yeah," he smiled back, revealing the dimple on both of his cheeks. "But seriously though, what do you want?"

"Something with a lot of carbs. Haven't had a real meal since forever because of Lissa's stupid grass diet,"
