Chapter 8
A week and a half later……..
Wednesday morning I was awaken to the sound of a loud whistle and people running down the stairs.
“FIRE DRILL, EVERYONE OUTSIDE NOW FIRE DRILL” Mr. Delgado shouted walking up and down the hallway waking everyone up.
These people are official nuts. I rolled over in my bed to look at the alarm clock.
3:15am
Yes they are completely out of their minds. It’s the middle of the week and we have school in a couple of hours. I pulled the covers higher rolled over and went back to sleep.
About a minute later Mr. Delgado stuck his head in my room.
“Jericho! What are you still doing in bed? Get up and get outside we are doing a fire drill”
“I’ll be out in a sec” I replied
He walked out and continued his incessant yelling down the stairs.
“You’ve got to be kidding me” I murmured as I climbed out of bed pulled on some jeans and a pullover along with my sneakers. Afterward I slugged my way out of my room.
As I was leaving I heard someone’s room door open. ‘Weird’ I thought to myself, I was under the impression that everyone had left already. I quickly ran to the staircase, went down a few steps and flattened myself against the wall. Whoever it was about to get a scare.
“Ok Enoch, coast is clear just go out the back door. No one will see you because their out in the front yard. I can’t believe I let you talk me into playing video games and we lost track of time” Kassandra said.
Now this was interesting. I’m pretty sure Enoch supposedly left hours ago. It’s a rule apparently once the family goes to sleep, the boyfriends are supposed to leave. It’s now 3:20 am. If Rob and Connie knew about this, they would both be six feet under.
“It’s a good thing I parked on the other block. And don’t pretend you’re mad you know you loved it” Enoch said replied
I heard them start kissing and silently gagged.
“Okay, seriously Enoch you have to go” Kassandra said a little breathless
Gag moment doubled.
Enoch chuckled “Okay, okay, I love you”
“I love you, too babe”
It took me a minute to realize that they were walking towards the stairs and would soon discover me in my makeshift hiding spot. I quickly ran down the rest of the staircase and waited at the bottom for them. They both came running down the stairs and stopped in shock when they saw me standing at the bottom.
“Hey!” I called out stepping more into their line of vision.
“Oh my god” they both shouted startled by my appearance. I smirked, Jericho: 1 K&E: 0.
“Last time I checked Enoch was supposed to be out of the house by midnight not” I looked down at my watch “3:25 in the morning” I said to them still keeping the smirk on my face.
“Jericho you cannot tell anyone about this, Papi will never let Enoch back in the house if you tell” Kassandra said
“Now why should I do this for you? You guys haven’t exactly been agreeable to since I’ve gotten here” I said
“I’ve been good to you man” Enoch pleaded
“You have Enoch and that’s the only reason why I’m still standing here and not outside talking to Mr. Delgado”
