Jett
I woke up to an annoying ringing in my ears, both inside my head and out. I figured out that the outside source was my not-broken phone, and the inside was my pounding hangover. I groaned and half-crawled across the room to get my phone, if only to stop the ringing.
"What?" I snapped upon answering.
There was a long silence.
"Jett?" I finally heard. It was my favorite sound in the world, her saying my name. Unfortunately, right now, I didn't want to hear it.
"What, Kami?" I asked harshly.
Another long pause.
"Um, where the hell are you?" she asked sounding annoyed.
"Ryan's," I answered.
She was pissed? Well guess what, so was I.
"All right, new question. Why?"
"Because he lives above the bar and I was too drunk to go anywhere. Happy, detective?" I asked, my voice sharp as I collapsed back on the couch and threw my forearm over my eyes to block out the sun.
"What the hell is your problem?" she asked.
"My problem," I didn't hesitate to answer, "is that my girlfriend and I got in a fight yesterday, so I went to have a few drinks. I ran into a total bitch who told me that my girlfriend was out with another guy, had this confirmed by said guy, then woke up to a killer fucking hangover which is not getting any better with this line of questioning."
"What the hell are you talking about, Jett?" Kami asked, sounding exasperated.
"I know you went to dinner with James, yesterday," I accused.
"Um, yeah, so? He's your best friend, Jett."
"Is that why you were all cozy with him?"
"Cozy? God, has it finally happened? Have you officially gone crazy?"
"This is not fucking funny, Kami," I snapped.
"Jett! What is wrong with you? Yeah, I went to the diner with James, but we weren't 'cozy' whatever the hell that means. And...wait, what total bitch did you run into?"
"Melanie."
There was another pause, longer this time.
"Where did you say you are?"
I huffed loudly.
"Ryan's place. Look, I have the world's worst headache, which you are making ten times worse. Can I hang up now without you freaking out about it later?"
More silence then a click, signaling she had hung up.
I sighed and tossed my phone on the ground, preparing for more sleep.
Kami
I stared at my phone for a second before turning to Melanie, who was looking at me with a smug expression on her face.
"Did you ask him?"
I clenched my jaw and looked away.
"Just because he stayed at Ryan's doesn't mean anything," I said.
"Kami, babe, look at the facts," she said. "Fact: Jett just told you himself that he saw me last night. Fact: Jett is super hung over, which means last night he was super drunk. Fact: Jett didn't come home last night. Fact: Jett is at Ryan's apartment, which is right above the bar, which makes it extremely convenient for a quick, drunk, angry fuck."
