Elements

I found myself at the pond, third day in a row, and tears are dripping down my face. It had been the first time Anna and I haven't sat together at lunch since I moved in to the school. All eyes were darting between both of us.  Even though Nathan's arrival slightly diverted the attention. At least he did something right I thought quietly to myself.

"Are you okay? " A voice whispered in my mind.

I turned around "What is wrong with you? Stop doing that!"

"Wow, your eyes." Anna blurted.

I shot her a look "I know I've been crying," I said, while frantically wiping at my eyes "There is no need to point out the obvious."

"No, your eyes, they are very peculiar!" Nathan mused.

I reached into my bag and grabbed a mirror. I opened the clasp and gulped down a deep breath. The reflection in the mirror caused me to perform a double take.

"What the ...?"I screamed.

My eyes were two different colours. My right eye was now topaz blue but the other eye had remained emerald green as usual.

"All four elements," Anna said shocked"All four."

"All four?" Nathan asked.

"You guys have a lot of explaining to do." I said.

"I have absolutely no idea what is up with your eyes, but about everything else, I'm sorry, we couldn't have said anything to a human. The Queen is very strict on things like that. Now you have a Mark" She says, smiling and pointing to the tattoo on my neck with intricate spidery lines that made no sense whatsoever. If there was really anything like Guardians they were bound to have rules and I knew that rules are made to be followed and not broken.

"Well, I'm sorry for reacting that way. It's just my parents got divorced, the woman I thought was my mom turns out to be just a stranger, I don't know my real mother, my dad is gay and I'm only half human because firstly, my dad is human: he doesn't have a Mark if he did I would have noticed this morning, like I noticed yours, right? So my mum is probably a Guardian," I sighed. "And what do you mean by 'All four elements'?"

" We all control one or two elements : fire, Water, Earth and Air. Mostly two, but all four, you will go down in Guardian history.  Only the Queen controls four and His Highness: the prince, controls three. It's odd because not only are you just half Soul Guardian, you also didn't know until yesterday. " She explained.

" Can I see your hair?" Nathan asked

I nodded, even though I was still confused, I had just wanted to feel his touch again.

He lifted my hair, his hand brushed against my back, causing my cheeks to flush. Then after examining my hair he nodded at Anna.

"You're right," He confirmed to Anna." The blue in your eyes say Water, the green eye means Earth, the red fiery hair is Fire while the white streak at the back of your hair; signifies Air." He told me.

" I've never seen anything like it." They both said, simultaneously.

" Well, what about your elements?" I asked desperately trying to veer the topic of the conversation away from my special abilities.

"My green eyes mean Earth and my Sign here means Fire." She said pointing at a tattoo of a flicker of flame, just below her collarbone, which I've never seen before now.

I looked at Nathan expecting his response.

"Mind communication is so much easier for me than speaking," Nathan explained. " The blue eyes represents Water and I also have a white lock of hair so, I also control Air."
