The Mission of the Guardians

"So what happened after I left?" Anna asked as she wiggled her perfectly arched eyebrows suggestively and giving me a suspicious smile that hinted at things I didn't want to think about.

I was sitting with crossed legs, which were tucked underneath me on the taupe coloured sofa in my entertainment room. Nathan was getting the snacks and we were about to watch Grease.

I shrugged. "We kissed and he apologised for it. Nothing much." I said trying not to let my emotions overwhelm me.

"He apologised? No way! He wouldn't dare." After noticing the expression I had on my face she shook her head and wrapped me in her arms and started stroking my hair.

"What are you two embracing for?" Nathan questioned making Anna shoot him a look. "What did I do!?"

"Never mind and anyways I have lots of questions for you two." I said separating myself from Anna."What exactly do you guys do?"

Nathan pressed play and the movie started. The only reason for watching this was so my dad didn't hear our conversation. After yesterday's conversation with Becca I had felt so much more comfortable and me and dad had had a heart to heart. That still didn't mean that I could let him listen in to the secrets of Soul Guardians.

Nathan responded to my question." About 1017 years ago there was a grand demon invasion we had to contain it. The Lord sent down many angels to help keep it in control as there must always be balance between heaven and hell. That's why we were sent down to help control the situation. Demons have an hierarchy like in the military or in heaven. Grade 4 are the best ones out there, difficult to kill though still possible. The Grade 1s are somewhat easier to destroy. What demons do is that they infiltrate human minds and get humans to give up their souls. Grade 4 can appear in any form. Grade 3 can appear as only animals including humans. Grade 2 can appear as animals excluding humans. Grade 1 can only hold an illusion -not actually become that thing- for a limited amount of time so they have to work really fast.

"The more souls you catch the higher you get in the grade system. If you reach Grade 4 and start to slack off you go down. Every month a new General is chosen for the demon army but only from those in Grade 4. Demons can't procreate so what happens is that when they catch a soul they train the soul like a child and the soul serves them faithfully, when the demon thinks the soul is ready the captured soul becomes a Grade 1 demon but will still serve its master till it reaches Grade 4 and then it is free of its bondage."

"The demons are ruled by the General who is chosen my Lilith. Her description is: 'Mystery. Babylon the Great. The Mother of harlots and of the abominations of the Earth'. She is the Devil's whore. Right up there with Lucifer himself and she rules the demons with an iron fist. Lucifer just handed them to her while he creates havoc elsewhere. That's why he stays in Hell and let's them stay in Armageddon." Anna said, contributing her share to the conversation.

"Armageddon?" I asked, scrunching up my nose in thought, unsure where that is."Isn't that a movie or a battle?"

"It's a place not a battle: 'and they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon' it's not a battle to signify the end of the world as some humans think." Nathan replied again, his hair hanging over his eyes making me want to reach out and tuck it behind his ears. Don't think of that, don't. I scolded myself while hastily pushing all thoughts of Nathan's gorgeousness out of my mind. I take deep breaths in and out before focusing back to the conversation.

They were now singing in the movie "Summer Nights" :

"Tell me more, tell me more

Was it love at first sight..."

I was humming the tune in my head but then Anna's voice shook me out of my brief reverie.

"Similar to the Demon World there is also a hierarchy in heaven: God Jehovah then Lord Jesus, The Holy Spirit, The main angels like : Gabriel, Michael, our Queen, The Chosen One, then it's the heavenly 24 Elders not our 24 Elders and th-"

I tuned out of the conversation again processing her words, did she just say The Chosen One???

I woke up on the sofa in the entertainment room breathing heavily. Nathan and Anna had left and I had fallen to sleep on the sofa in a not very comfortable position. On the wall closest to me was a rectangular frame and in it was a swirling mist of blue, green and grey. A voice in my mind told me what it was: "a Portal"

I found myself approaching it reaching out to touch it and my hand getting pulled by a force so strong. It was like being pushed into a quick sand unable to overpower such strong force.  Then my whole body was being enveloped in darkness...

                                  ****

I was in my room, the Portal had  led to my room.

"Pack," the voice suddenly commanded,  with a serene and calm tone. I grabbed my D&G suitcases and started filling it with clothes, shoes, and other prized possessions.

After I finished packing the voice spoke again "Your mission has just begun." This was the voice I had heard in the fire and then I hadn't known I was going to be hearing the voice a lot more often in the days following this...
