"GranGran?"

"Yes, Lia?"

"Why are we here?"

Ursa looked at Lia, sitting across the fire from her. It was late and they'd eaten long ago, but neither of them was tired. Ursa wasn't sure what the little girl meant, and she frowned.

"I'm not sure what you mean."

"I mean, why are we on this island? Why aren't Mommy and Daddy here too?" Lia looked close to tears, and Ursa instantly reached out and gathered the little girl to her, hugging her tightly.

"Because... because of a prophecy, Lia."

"A what?"

"A prophecy. It's something that someone says is going to happen, in the future."

"Like a wish?"

"Kind of like a wish, except a prophecy always comes true."

"Oh. What's the proph- pro--?" Lia frowned. She didn't usually have trouble pronouncing words, but this one eluded her. Ursa smiled.

"The prophecy? It's about the spirits, the Sun and Moon. The Sun is called Agni, and the moon is called La. A long time ago, Agni and La got into a fight, and they almost destroyed the whole world. The Sun and Moon are still fighting, still out of balance. If they don't find balance soon, the world will fall apart."

"But why?"

"I don't know. Because that's what the prophecy says?"

"But... why does that mean we're here?"

"Your mom and dad, Lia, are like the Sun and Moon. They're so much a part of each other, but they think they're separate. So they fight, and they hate, and it tears the world apart. In my time in the spirit world I saw evidence of it--water and fire spirits are fighting, unable to find peace and balance. But you, Lia, you are our hope. You are the balance, the hope, because inside of you is Harmony."

"What does that mean?"

"You can bend two elements, even though you're not the Avatar. The elements inside you are opposite, like your parents, but you combine them so perfectly that they're almost the same. I think the spirits hope that you can bring your parents together the same way you bring fire and water together."

"But... what can I do? I'm just a kid." Tears filled Lia's eyes, and Ursa hugged her tight again.

"That, I don't know. But I know you're stronger than you think, Princess. And I love you, and your parents love you. We'll help you."

Lia sniffled and wiped her nose with the back of her hand, looking up at Ursa with wide blue eyes. Finally, she nodded.

"Okay. I'll try."

Sokka grunted as he jumped to the ground. "I think that's everything." He went over a mental checklist of all the supplies they'd need, but couldn't think of anything missing.

Suki smiled and kissed his cheek. "You did good, honey. Are you sure Appa can make it across the ocean?"

"Yeah, no problem. We'll stop on Crescent Island for the first night. He'll be fine. Won'tcha buddy?" Sokka rubbed Appa's head, resulting in Appa licking him.

Sokka groaned. "Appa!"

Behind them, Suki giggled.

"So, are we ready to go?"

"Yeah, yeah, let me just get this off, you big furry beast one of these days I'm gonna..." Sokka trailed off, muttering as he wiped drool off himself. Suki tried not to laugh too loud.

"Sokka! Suki!"

Suki turned to see the village headman coming toward them. She smiled. "Did we forget something?"

"No, no--but I just received a message from a friend in Senlin Harbor. The Water Princess is there right now!"
