Prologue
Eden
It was so hard to look my parents in the eye and lie to them. Yeah, I know I don't sound like most teenagers, but in all seriousness I'm not you're average teenager. When I was seventeen my little sister, Jenna, was diagnosed with stage one kidney cancer. So up until then yes I partied had friends in general I had a life.
Once we found the cancer I stopped all my childish shenanigans and got my shit together. I got so Into my school work. I passed with not only a 4.0, but no Social life whatsoever.
Yeah, granted I got a scholarship to multiple schools but in the end decided to stay close to home by accepting evergreen State university's offer. Indeed I did plan on going to college until money got tight and my parents house was under eviction. I flash back to the conversation I've had many times with my parents l.
"Mom, no matter what you say I'm staying and getting a job to help you guys out" I tell my parents
My mom sighs "Sweetheart, I can't let you throw your life away by skipping college and getting a job without anything except a high school degree"
"That's not your choice to make I'm a legal adult. I want to be there for you guys and Jenna" I counter back
"Eden that's not what your mother and I want for you. You can go do big and better things. We will come up with the money ok?"
Knowing I won't win the fight an idea pops into my head
"Ok fine" I tell them
They share a look of shock I usually put up a bigger fight
"Ok?" They ask
I smile "ok"
