Chapter 2

Jacobs POV

"Can I at least have your number?" I ask her

I still can't believe I didn't notice her all these years. She has the most beautiful blue eyes I've ever seen. With long brown hair in big flowing curls. She looks at me like I grew a horn.

"Nope" she says and turns and walks away

If it was any other girl I would think she is just playing hard to get. Which rarely ever happens. But, the way she said it and the look on her face it was an one hundred percent honest 'no'

I'm still staring at her retreat when my friend calls my name. I look over and everyone besides Rob has left. I nod at him and take one last glance of this mysterious beauty before I follow him out. If it was any other girl I would forget about it and move on. But there was something about this girl and I needed to figure it out

*****

My friends and I were at the club not even half an hour and some bimbo was trying to get me to go home with her

"Come on man what's your problem, she's hot!" Rob gushes out

I don't know why but I just couldn't stop thinking about that's girl at the diner. Come to think if it, I didn't get her name. Damn it! Why am I getting so worked up about this? She didn't even give me the time of day

"Hey man I think I'm going to just go home" I tell him and turn to leave

"Wait what about the hottie?" He asked

"You can have her, tell her I had to leave I don't know or care" I tell him and turn to leave and all why friends call out my name but I don't listen I just push through the sweaty crowd.

Just as I get outside my phone rings knowing it's just one of the guys I don't pick up. Once I pull out my keys I soon locate my car. My phone rings again and when I look down I'm surprised to see that it's my cousin.

"Hey Stace, what's up?" I ask my cousin

"Hey bout damn time." She jokingly yells at me "what are your plans for tomorrow?" She asks

Before I weigh my options knowing she needs something

A. I could see what she needs

B. I could lie and say I'm busy

Or C. I could help her with whatever it is she needs and see if Stacy remembers the girl from the diner being only a year older than us

"What do you need?" I ask

She giggles "why would you think I needed something?"

"Oh and you're just calling at.." I stop to check the time "1:28 in the morning just to talk?" I ask knowing the answer

She huffs "fine! Grandma hurt her arm and she needs me to take hold of her stand at the farmers market" she explains

"And what does that have to do with me?" I ask her

"Those boxes of honey are heavy can you pretty please come help me load and unload before and after?" She asks

"No I...." I off cut off by her pout

"Please you'll be the best cousin in the whole world" she tells me

"You do realize that it's going to be my sleep in Saturday, right?" I inform her

"Omgosh it's Saturday not Sunday please Jake?" She asks again

"Fine I'll help you but it's only because I love grandma" I tell her

"Puh-lease you love me to!" Stacy laughs

"Yeah yeah whatever I have to drive now bye" I tell her

"Hey! Meet me at grandmas at say around 7 please"

"Ok I'll be there" with that I hang up and head for home.

Eden's POV

I finish up my last table getting a decent tip. I've been out of it ever since Jacob left. I don't know why I knew he was an asshole in high school, I don't get why I wasn't surprised when he didn't know my name. 'Oh well! snap out of it Eden you're better than this' I give myself a little pep talk

"Honey are you okay?" Trisha asks as I'm getting my stuff

"Yeah I am thanks, night, Trish" I tell her and turn to leave

"Night! Get a good nights rest. Don't forget tomorrow is Saturday" she reminds me

"I wouldn't forget something like that" I give her a reassuring smile and head for my car.

Once I get home I check my voicemail for any messages. Hoping for at lease a missed call from the hospital I am disappointed my sister still hasn't called. When she is older she will understand... I stop when reality hits me. I flash back to the awful day

"Are you the Collins?" A nurse asks my family and I

"Yes, we are" my father ask for us as we all get up to stand for the news

"I'm sorry to inform you that your child's condition isn't getting any better" she starts to say

"How" sniffle "long does" sniffle, sob "she have?" My mother breaks down

"Well we don't have a date and she is still on the list for a kidney but as of now we don't think she will live until her ninth birthday" she sadly informs us with her head down

And with that it brings me back to reality and it hits me hard. I think about calling the hospital just so I can hear her voice but look at the time and think better of it. So I do what I do most nights. I change into my pjs and cry myself to sleep.
