JJ's POV

I sat in detention, my leg bouncing up and down as I looked around the room. Simon was sitting in the same spot he does in class, and I was in the front row all the way to the right, this is where the teacher put us.

He sat in the front of the room, correcting test.

I had left a note for him on his desk, explaining that it wasn't Simon's fault, asking him to not put this on his record, it was my fault and I'd stay for a couple more detentions, I was just hoping he would agree.

He picked up the note, scanning it for a moment, then turning to look at me, he nodded, then shoved the note into his desk draw.

I looked over at Simon. We weren't even aloud to work on homework during detention, which were the only thing Simon said and asked the entire time. The rest of it he was completely silent.

He was biting his lip, twirling a ring on his pinky finger. It was hard to tell, but it looked like his hands were shaking.

Looking at his face, the bruise wasn't even there, I couldn't even see it. I scrunched my eyebrows, utterly confused. Yesterday after getting punched I could even see it forming, so why the hell wasn't it there today?

Simon's POV

I knew JJ was staring at me, but I kept my eyes on my ring.

"Mr. Minter? Can you come here?" Says the teacher as he holds a piece of paper.

I glanced at the clock, it had been an hour. The teacher then turns to JJ, "You're dismissed."

JJ nods, grabbing his things and steps out of the classroom.

I walked up to him, feeling my heart stop in my chest, "Y-Yes?"

He looks at me sadly in the eyes, "I've realized that this incident isn't common. You're a good kid Simon, so I've decided not to put this on your record."

I let out a sigh in relief, "T-Thank you so much...it won't happen again."

"It better not, or there will be stricter consequences. Skipping class isn't something I take very lightly. You and Olajide should be disappointed in yourselves, but I know it wasn't your fault."

Olajide...his name replayed over and over in my head, his name was Olajide.

What did he mean it wasn't my fault? Did someone tell him what happened?

The teacher then holds up my incomplete test, a 26 is wrote on the top, "A 26...did you not study at all!?"

I shook my head, I don't know why I did, but I did it. Truth was I studied all night for this test, but I could never admit this was my best effort, a 26.

He waves the paper in defeat, "Next test must be better, now leave."

I nodded highly embarrassed, grabbing my stuff.

I told my mum I was staying after school with a friend, she didn't believe me, but for the offchance that I actually made a friend, she let me.

My car was now fixed, so I could head straight home.

JJ's POV

I gazed over at Simon, who walked out of the classroom, he was holding his strap tight. He stared hard at the floor, casting a glance at me, but then kept walking.

As he walked passed, I walked quickly to catch up with him, "How does it feel to be rebellious for once? Does it feel nice, like freedom?"

He just bit his lip, keeping his eyes to the ground. For an odd reason I felt like I wanted to test him, he seemed perfect, and this one unlucky thing seems to be breaking him.

"I don't know, I just feel like I would expect better out of the teachers pet." I said hearing the whole conversation that happened inside. His eyes flicker with a sign of hurt as he kept walking.

I inspected him more, I saw the side of his face looking stranger and stranger, I put my finger tip to the side right before his eye, he completely flinched, pretty much jumping away at my movement.

Looking down I could see foundation on my skin. As I looked back at him, I could see the panic in his piercing blue eyes.

After he realizes I wasn't going to do anything. He lowered his head once more, and kept walking. We got into the fresh air of outside as he started walking along the road, heading to the parking lot farther up.

"Y-You're covering it with makeup?! What the fuck else are you covering up." I said in an intimidating tone. He stopped dead in his tracks, just standing still.

I wasn't sure why I was doing this, but I didn't know what to do with my emotions for Simon. He just continued to look down, almost lost in thought.

Simon was tall, and incredibly skinny, lanky. He bit his lip, and continued to walk.

I walked quickly to catch up with him again, "Are you just not going to say anything?" I said confused, what would it take for him to snap!

Once again he says nothing. We we're at his car now. He hops in, ignoring the fact I'm right next to him.

Looking in the back I could see a bunch of football equipment, boots, shin pads, and a couple of footballs. Along with a football net. He grabbed a pair of glasses, putting them on like he didn't want me to see.

He takes one last glance at me and drives off.

-Timeskip-

"JJ!? Helloooo." Josh yelled as I completely ignore the pass he gave me.

"Sorry." I mumbled as I ran off, grabbing the football. I came back at it and we kept passing back and forth.

Because the season was over, we decided to do an indoor session at this pitch we had. It was pretty much Sunday league, but indoors.

I looked around at the bleachers, wishing to see Simon here, but he would have no reason to be.

I kept thinking about the football equipment in the back of his car, and how he flinched when I touched him, like I was going to punch him. I was just trying to push him, I didn't want to hurt him.

"Okay what's up. Jide! Get your head in the game man. This is our first game, it's important."

I nodded my head, and we kept passing back and forth, it was gonna be a rough game. I needed my head in the game.
