Valery’s POV

“Could you help me with the tie in the back Jinxxiee?”  I ask.

“Sure!”  She comes over and starts tying it for me.  Jinxxiee is Texas’s younger sister.  Her real name is Pammy, but she hates it.  She’s 5’1”, she’s fifteen, her hair is dyed blue, and her eyes are green.  She’s wearing a black dress with a knee-length, frilly skirt and a tight bodice with white swirls embroidered into it.  I met her a few weeks ago and we instantly became best friends.  She finishes and I turn to look at myself in the mirror.  My hair has grown past my shoulders and I curled it for today.  It’s still black on the top half, white on the bottom half, and red at the tips like it was at Christmas.  Normally I would’ve changed it by now, but I really like it like this.  My dress is black, like I said before, with an ankle length skirt and long, black sheer sleeves.  It zips up in the back and there’s a black ribbon that ties around my waist.

I turn to Sally and I freeze.  Escence has been helping her get ready.  Sally also has her hair curled, which she never does.  It looks really, really pretty.  Her dress is pretty much the same exact thing as mine, only in off-white.  The ribbon around her waist is actually white, though.  Escence is fixing her hair a bit.  She takes a step back and smiles.  Then she turns to me.  Escence is wearing a pale blue version of Jinxxiee’s dress.  Her hair is strait like it always is.

“You look gorgeous.  Both of you do.”  Escence says, smiling at both of us.  “Now for the finishing touch.”  She walks over to the corner of the room we’d been given to prepare in.  She comes back with two shoe boxes.  I groan and Sally laughs at me.  Escence hands one box to Jinxxiee, who tell me to sit.  I do as I’m told and lift up the hem of my skirt a bit.  She opens the box and pulls out a pair of black, four inch, stiletto heels.

“I still don’t see why I couldn’t get the boot-version of these.  My skirt will cover them anyway.  And I fell much more comfortable in boots, there’s more support at the ankles, which is where I’m all wobbly.”  I complain.

“Hush up and put the damn shoes on.”  Escence snaps.  I cross my arms and pout.  There’s a knock at the door.

“Is it safe to come in?”  Jessie asks.

“Yeah.”  Escence calls. Jessie and Dahvie walk in.  I almost smile when I see them, but then remember that I’m pouting and stop myself.

“What a serious pout for such a happy day.”  Dahvie comments.

“Of course I’m pouting.  You would be too if you were being put into a pair of shoes that classify as both murder weapons and death traps.”  I say.  Jessie walks over and looks at them.  He looks back up at me.

“I have to walk down the aisle with you in those?”  He asks.

“Have fun trying to keep me from dying.”  I say lightly.

“I’m more concerned that you’ll step on me and skewer my foot.”  He says, gulping theatrically.  Jinxxiee laughs.  I look over to Sally, who’s making much less of a fuss as Escence puts on white heels identical to mine.  I look up at Dahvie and actually smile this time.  He sees me and smiles back.

“What you smiling at?”  He asks.

“You look very handsome in a tux and without makeup.”  I tell him.  That’s right, no makeup.  Jayy wouldn’t let him put on his unity stripes. He blushes and looks down.

“What about me?  Don’t I look handsome?”  Jessie asks.

“Of course!  You look so grown up!”  I say happily.  I almost want to cry looking at him.  “When you walked in, for a second I thought you were Connor.”  I add softly.  Jessie smiles at me gently.
