Kato first met his wife Yuki at a young age in an orphanage he grew up in. Yuki's parents were killed by King Lithor's guard when she was just 10. Her uncle and aunt put her in the orphanage home as they were afraid for their life since her parents worked for the Queen in the past, and King Lithor's guards might attempt to kill them too if they knew about it.
Kato was 12 at that time but he was matured enough to understand her pain. He looked after her the day she arrived and promised to take care of her forever. As years passed by, they grew up and fell in love with each other and later got married. He became a daily wage earner and started saving to maintain their livelihood and to buy a small plot of land which was his dream. Yuki would often work at people's houses and do their household chores to earn few extra coins until the day she became pregnant. Kato wouldn't allow Yuki to work when was pregnant, he wanted the best for his wife as he loved her very much and wanted to keep her happy.
Kato's heart shattered into million pieces when Yuki died giving birth to their baby girl. He cried and cried as he was left all alone to look after their child. He knew he had to be strong for his baby whom Yuki wanted to see grow up the most in the world, so he stopped crying and went to work with his baby girl- Nanami, which his wife wanted to name the baby if it was a girl. Kato never remarried as he was busy building a happy life for Nanami so that one day she could get married into a rich family and never have to struggle like them.
When she turned 19, Kato was already 49, he had since bought a small plot of land with his saving. In his small plot he grew vegetables and sold them in the market and earned enough money to get by. He married off his beautiful daughter Nanami into a rich family like he always wanted to. His son in law worked in one of the Queen's palace as a merchant and was quite wealthy. Kato was quite satisfied with his family and thought he could live or die in peace since Nanami, his only blood would be happy forever. But who knew that Nanami would face the same fate as her mother, that she too would die while giving birth like Yuki.
When Kato heard the news that Nanami died while giving birth to his grandson he nearly collapsed. He felt like an orphan once again. He felt like he was the unluckiest man alive in the world who had to cremate both his wife and daughter while he was still breathing, the only two person he loved more than his own life. He thought life was so unfair to him. He really wanted to die.
Only when his son in law handed his son to Kato, did he feel like he could breathe again. Both cried that night till tears couldn't flow out anymore from their eyes. Kato was so sorry towards his son in law who became a widower like him at a young age. Nanami's in laws didn't want their son to become like Kato; they soon married off their son again. However the new lady of the house didn't want to raise a son which was not her own blood. She wanted to kick out Peru (Kato's son in law named his son Peru). Kato feared his grandson would be mistreated as days passed by so he requested his son in law to give the kid to him, after much request his son in law agreed to give Peru to Kato.
Kato was greatful of Peru as he was the only reason why Kato was still alive today. Kato moved to a small city after few days with Peru. As Peru grew up, Kato became older. Both of them started living a normal life until one day Kato on his way home from a market found a baby wrapped up in a small blanket crying vigorously in the cold weather...who looked so similar with his daughter....except for her eyes...
