Jieun was lost in her mind when she bumped into a person.
"You okay?" the person in front waved his hand in front of her dazed eyes.
She looked up to see Hyunjin worriedly examining her. She smiled to reassure him, but it didn't reach her eyes.
"Come on, I will take you home," Hyunjin softly grab her hand and dragged her out of the rowdy carnival. Shew didn't protest. She really needed to get out of here as her head was spinning.
"Can we grab coffee first? I need caffeine," Jieun tugged at Hyunjin's sleeves from behind.
They were sat at the booth in the corner, far away from people's eyes; just the way Jieun likes it.
Hyunjin kept glancing at the girl, not knowing how to start the conversation. He noticed that her eyes were puffy from crying, but he doubted that she would want to talk about it. Unlike her usual intimidating image, she seemed vulnerable at the moment.
"What?" Jieun asked sharply on sensing the boy's stare on her for quite sometimes. She knew her eyes were bloodshot, but no way was she going to admit that she was crying. It would be embarrassing.
"Nothing," Hyunjin smiled and his hand automatically went onto his nape out of nervousness. "You uhm," he paused while contemplating whether he should bring up the subject, "looked pretty." He decided to just steer away from the subject as he knew she would just be upset. After realizing what he had said, he slapped himself mentally.
"That was so random," Jieun chuckled. She cleared her throat when she realized she actually laughed.
Hyunjin smiled brighter on seeing her smiling genuinely. Awkward silence soon followed.
Jieun cleared her throat before asking the question which had been bothering since they met, "Why would your friends dare you to ask me out?" She emphasized on 'me' as she wanted to know badly whether she was considered as an easy catch to the guys. From what her ex had been doing, she felt so cheap and easily manipulated on the tips of his fingers.
Hyunjin fiddled with his fingers nervously and grabbed his drink. He drank it without cooling it and jumped when it burnt his tongue. Jieun rolled her eyes at his attempt to avoid answering her question.
Just when she thought they weren't going to talk about it anymore, Hyunjin answered, "I wasn't dared actually. I knew you were giving excuses to not go out with me, so I just said those stuffs out of embarrassment." The boy's ears were so red, and he wouldn't meet Jieun's eyes.
"oh."
Jieun continued drinking her coffee, not knowing how to continue the conversation.
"You know that not all boys are like your ex, right?" Hyunjin spoke up.
"I know," Jieun replied. To be honest, she wasn't sure about her answer. What if all boys are the same?
"Then, why are you pushing me out?" Hyunjin pouted cutely.
"I am not. I wouldn't even be in this café with you if I was," Jieun rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, right. Who could resist this charming boy?" he winked. The nervous boy from before was swept under the rug.
"Stop, I had enough of boy drama to last me for a year. I don't need another," Jieun laughed.
"What did you and Felix talk about?" Hyujin cautiously asked while stirring his drink as casual as possible.
"Just stuffs about letting me enjoy of my life without a jerk and leaving me alone" Jieun shrugged, acting nonchalant.
"Do you actually want Felix to leave you alone?" Hyunjin suddenly turned serious.
"What do you mean? Of course, who wouldn't want to stay away from her annoying ex. Is that even a question? Ha-Ha," Jieun rambled on. Hyunjin picked on her tone of denial but he wanted to ignore it. So, he did.
"Do you know what's going to make him stay away?" Hyunjin stared at her in the eyes and saw them wavered.
"What?" Her voice was barely above whisper.
"You showing that you have moved on with another guy," Hyunjin tried to masked his sadness on seeing his crush bit her lips in uncertainty.
"What are you trying to suggest?" Jieun sipped her coffee, not liking where the conversation was going.
"You can fake date me," Hyunjin fiddled with his fingers once again.
"That won't be fair on you. Plus, I want drama-free life. So, I'll pass," Jieun shrugged it off lightly, not taking the boy seriously at all.
"Just know that I will be here for you, Jieun," Hyunjin smiled and ruffled her hair.
"You know, although we have only known each other for like hours, I feel like I have known you for years," Jieun opened up slightly for the guy who had been trying so hard to gain her trust.
"It's okay, we still have many more years ahead of this friendship to know each other more," Hyunjin poked out his tongue childishly and Jieun laughed.
She was afraid for what had yet to come from befriending this boy but at least he made her feel comfortable.
