Lillian's POV
Harry and I quickly walk Niall back into his apartment so we can get him fed and cleaned. "Go take a shower and I'll make you some food." Harry tells Niall, and Niall reluctantly walks out of the kitchen to go take a shower.
"I'll clean up the place while you do that." I say to Harry, then I start searching for the trash bags. Once I find them I start to clean up the mess Niall made.
It doesn't take me long to clean the apartment which is surprising because there was so much to clean. I've left Niall's room be until now since I didn't want to see how trashed it is. I walk to his room and open the door without knocking. The first thing I see isn't the mess -although that is the second thing I see- but it's Niall sitting on his bed with his leg criss-crossed and his head resting in his hands. Seeing Niall look so vulnerable is quite heartbreaking. The sight makes me weak and I wish I could un-see it.
"Ni, do you want to get something to eat?" I ask him, frowning when he shakes his head no. "C'mon, I know you have to be hungry."
"I'm not hungry." Niall huffs.
"You need to eat." I press, hoping he'll give in.
"What I need is to be alone." He tells me in an unpleasant tone, making me regret coming.
"We're just trying to help you, Niall, but whatever. We'll leave you alone." I sigh, then leave the room.
I walk to the kitchen and I'm greeted by a lovely smell. To bad no one will be eating it. "Where's Niall?" Harry asks me, turning of the burner that the food is on.
"He isn't coming. And we aren't staying since we aren't welcome." I say, searching the cupboards for a container to put the food in.
"What do you mean?"
"Niall said he needs to be alone so we're going to do just that." I inform Harry.
"You're just going to leave him even after what I told you?" Harry questions.
"If you don't want to leave, fine, but I'm not staying." I shake my head, trying not to get overly emotional. "I'm not going to let someone take me for granted." And with that I leave.
When I get home I'm a complete wreck; crying and trying not to have a total break down. As I walk into my apartment I see the calendar hanging on the wall and gasp when I see how fast the day is coming up. I quickly run to my bed and look under it for the box that only comes out at this time of the year. Once I find it and take it out I sit on my bed and open the box. The first thing I pull out makes tears come to my eyes. It's not like I didn't know that it was there or that I wasn't expecting to see it. In fact, it's at the top of the box every year. It's a torn out section of an old newspaper that talks about a tragic accident that killed a married couple, leaving two teenagers parentless. A picture of the mushed car is in the top right corner, showing just how terrible the accident was.
The next thing that I take out of the box is a picture of my parents, my brother and I when we went to Disney World for the first time. I remember that day very well. My brother and I were so excited to go even though our friends thought that we were too old to go. Trace was seventeen and I was thirteen. We were at the park from open to close just so we could fit in every ride. This memory puts a smile on my face. I keep taking pictures and other things that hold memories out of the old box. It makes me cry because I wish I could go back to those times, but it also takes my mind off of Niall.
I look at the time and all of the sudden realize that I'm going to be late for work if I don't leave soon. And then I realize that I've missed my last three shifts. I quickly call Daisy to see if I still have my job or not. She would know because her parents own the restaurant.
"Where the hell have you been, Lillian? I've had to lie to my parents and say that you're too sick to even call in and say you can't make it. And you of all people know that I don't lie!" Daisy screams at me when she answers. I guess she added my number to her contacts already.
"I'm so sorry, Daisy. I got caught up in Niall and everything that comes along with him. I'll do anything you want me to." I apologize, upset with myself that I forgot about my job.
"You're fine, Lillian. But if this ever happens again I'm not covering for you." Daisy huffs.
"Thank you so much! I'm going to get dressed now and then I'll be on my way." I tell her then hang up the phone. I quickly put my uniform on and run out of the door, walking the three blocks to the restaurant.
It's not until half way through my shift -that was almost doubled- that things start to go bad.
"My name is Lillian and I'll be serving you this evening. Would you like to order any drinks? We've got the best strawberry lemonade in town." I say to the customer, trying not to go through the motions like a robot.
"Well, then I'd like to have the strawberry lemonade and thirty minutes to speak to you." The customer says, making me gasp. Of course Niall had to show up here.
