Sorry this chapter is so short. The next one's where all the real excitement happens. I promise. :)

The Fight of Our Lives (Part 1)

Rose's POV

Pain coursed through my body. It was becoming harder and harder to see and my brain was going into overdrive just to think. I had never felt anything like this before. Unfortunately, I would probably be going through this again in the future. I was experiencing something called labor.

It had only begun five minutes before, but it felt like years. The Doctor had no clue what to do; human related things were not in his area of expertise. So the Doctor took to nervously ranting under his breath as he paced around the room.

I could barely stay conscious, but I somehow managed to hear pieces of the Doctor's conversation with himself. "Don't know what to do, what's going to happen, will she die, I don't know what I'll do if she dies"

"Doctor," I managed to gasp through my deep breaths. "I'm not going to die. But do you think you could take me to a hospital?"

Franticly running his hands through his hair, the Doctor replied, "I don't know what hospital. Is there a certain one you want?" I rolled my eyes and shook my throbbing head 'no'. "Alright, let's see what we have to choose from-" The Doctor stopped mid sentence.

"What's wrong?" I screamed, hoping to speed the process up. I didn't want to seem impatient, but I felt as if I were about to explode. It was sort of an emergency.

"There's a medical room in the TARDIS. I almost forgot." the Doctor mentioned quietly. "Well, let's go then!" I shouted. Due to the pain, I almost missed the Doctor yell, "Allons~y!" My husband.

After carrying me into a white room with many technical objects, the Doctor began to insert several needles into my arms. "Anesthesia," he explained quickly, running to and fro with a stethoscope in his hand. The Doctor seemed a bit frazzled. I guess he had never delivered a baby before.

I focused on my breathing. Calming down was the best thing I could for the moment. We didn't need two parents-to-be going crazy at the same time.

Oddly enough, the pain stopped momentarily. I could actually breath normal and my head wasn't pounding anymore. The Doctor paused his quick darting and popped up at my side with a transducer and petroleum jelly in his hands. "We're going to perform an ultrasound." the Doctor announced.

He fiddled with the machinery for a few moments before straightening up with a wide grin. Jelly was rubbed on my stomach, and I soon saw an image of our baby on the screen. Words couldn't describe the joy that filled me when I saw the picture. "You're the Doctor after all." I whispered. My husband squeezed my hand lightly. I was almost about to cry again when the pain returned.

I tried to make it seem like I wasn't in excruciating pain, but it was hard to hide. Gasping and small screams soon echoed across the room; the sound waves kept bouncing all over the place.

The contractions were becoming more often as seconds passed by. More calm than before, the Doctor was able to comfort me with soothing words while he persisted to control his breathing. "It'll be over soon. You're doing great. Just keep pushing." he told me.

Although his presence and advice were comforting, it didn't stop the pain from hurting. I cried, screamed, and gasped for air. It seemed like it would never end.

It was then that I heard it. The tiny cry that was barely audible over the chaos. Ginger Rosanna Smith had been born. I couldn't remember ever being happier in my life. Well, except on my wedding day. Both events were very exciting and emotional.

The Doctor grabbed the medical scissors and, with one of his signature wide grins, began to cut the umbilical cord. Our child wrapped in a bundle of blankets in his arms, the traveling man made his way over to me. As soon as I caught a glimpse of my daughter, tears began to fall.

She was beautiful. Soft red hair covered her head and her tiny hands moved about. Ginger's toes scrunched up and wiggled when I tickled them. I couldn't wait to see what she would look like in the future.

The tears ran faster and faster. Soon, my face felt as if it had been washed in the sink. The Doctor noticed, and he watched my expression with curiosity. "What's wrong?" the Doctor asked me. It was hard to explain what I was feeling, but I did my best.

"It's just that I never thought I'd become a mother. I wasn't against the idea, but I never saw myself as part of a family, especially one as weird as this." I explained as I dried my tears. "It's hard to believe this is all real."

The next thing I knew, I was wrapped in a warm embrace. The moment was so relaxed and loving. When I looked up at my husband, he began to speak softly. "Rose," he murmured as he shook his head.

"Do you know how lucky I am to be with you? I have memories of traveling to so many different places and meeting so many people, but out of all of them, I have to say that you're the first one I've felt this way about. And do you know what else, Rose Tyler? You're going to be the best mum ever."

I thought I'd cried enough within the past hour, but I wasn't done yet. The Doctor's little speech made me cry even harder than before. When I pulled myself together, I decided to reciprocate the Doctor's feelings.

"There aren't enough words in the English language to say how much I love you and how I thankful I am that you came down in your big blue box and rescued me. You changed my life, Doctor. And I'm so lucky to be with a time-traveling alien such as yourself."

The Doctor chuckled fondly at my remarks. Together we laughed, then inched closer to each other. The Doctor and I kissed. I never wanted it to end, but it seemed like only seconds before a shrill cry gathered our attentions. Situations like this would probably happen a lot in the future, I thought as I faced my newborn baby. But something was off. The Doctor and I followed her gaze, only to find our worst enemy on the other side of the room. "EXTERMINATE!!!"
