"A house without books is like a room without windows."
He spends his days in the quaint store alone; stacking more than enough books on the shelves and reading whenever deemed possible. The same book worms crawl in daily, eyes scanning up and down the layers of books in hopes to find their next great adventure. He watches as their eyes light up when they read a description on the back knowing they are soon going to become the book's next victim. And the best thing is, they don't even mind.
Reading has the ability to take you to another universe that Louis knows he and others would love to stay in forever.
So it's no surprise to him that when a girl walks in with hunched shoulders and a disgusted look painted on her face that she catches Louis' attention. He watches her through his glasses as she stares at all the books, eyes never settling on one long enough to actually figure out what's written on the paper inside. And unlike all the other customers that come in here with such enthusiasm, she already seems ready to leave. Her foot bounces up and down impatiently as her arms cross in front of her chest, letting a long exasperated sigh release from her lips. She spins in a circle once more, looking around before running her fingers through her hair and walking over to the counter, resting on her elbows.
"Do you have that Shawn Redah guy? Ya know, the one that wrote Around the Mountain or something? I need it for school, unfortunately." Her bright brown eyes stare at Louis while she chews her gum, waiting for a response.
"Ah, yes. He's in the back over here. Not too popular." Louis walks out from behind the counter to the far back corner, looking behind him to make sure the girl is following.
"That's a British accent, isn't it?" Louis nods. "Where from?" As Louis grabs the books from the shelf and hands it to her, he looks up quite surprised that she is actually trying to create conversation. He pushes his glasses up his nose.
"Doncaster."
"Hmm."
"So is that all you're getting?"
She nods.
"Okay, I'll just go ring you up then." The two walk back to the counter, the girl following a few feet behind him.
"That'll be seven ninety-eight, lucky for you it was on clearance."
The girl shoves items around in her purse until she finds her wallet, handing Louis a card. "There's also a sequel to this book, if you find yourself liking it." Louis says as he hands the card back to her.
She grins, grabbing the book and putting her purse back on her shoulder. "Thanks, but I don't read."
