The last time Mr Zhao heard his son crazy decision when his prodigal son in computer science choose to become a police officer like him instead enrol into the university after he finished high school. Zhao Yunlan reason is simple. He wants to be a better cop than him.

Well, it become truth a few years later. His son may not become the chief as fast as him, but his reputation in the force still recognizable.  All persons who had worked with his son respect him not because of fear, but because his son treats them like his own family. There are times when strangers are like family and family are like strangers.

 He and his son actually so alike. Both of them are stubborn with their own choices as they already aware of all the consequences. They can stand alone and survive. 

Of course, it is a very lonely journey. It is a great blessing when his wife came into his life. A delicate, smart and strong woman manage to melt his icy heart. Thus, he quietly wishes that his son also will get a wonderful companion just like his mother. 

His son is a social butterfly, easy to interact with the strangers. But, his heart is actually cold and distant because he doesn't want to become a burden to other people. 

Now, he has found the one he is looking for.  Zhao Yunlan, his precious son wants to get married! With a man!

His son never brings any of his friends to their house. The friendship is limited around the working circle only. His son also never talk about his friends in such passion, unlike this twins. That's what his wife told him.

During the dinner and aftermath,  he watches how his son treats this polite shy bespectacled professor with care. His mind keeps telling him that they indeed real lovers. They are in deep love, even death cannot separate them.

"Stop staring at them and eat your favourite cookies", his wife sits beside him after putting a plate of strawberry shortcakes cookies and pumpkin cookies on the table.

He takes a bite of the strawberry shortcake cookies and perplexed with the taste, "Wow! This is the most delicious cookies I ever had. We never had this before. Do you used a new recipe or you bought from a new bakery?"

His wife also eats a piece of the cookies before answers the question, "Your future son in law baked them".

He incidentally swallows the cookie and cough abruptly. His wife passes him a glass of water and continues to eat nonchalantly.

"How can you so casual about this?"Mr Zhao asks his wife. For this extraordinary matter, his wife calm reaction is the last thing he expects.

"Mr Zhao, the world changes. There's no boundary in love. As long as the other person love and care my little son in fullest, there is no problem for me to accept. Besides, it's so rare to find a person who changes our son for better".

Mr Zhao sighs. His wife right. Zhao Yunlan indeed had changed into a new leaf past few months. He no longer drinks too much, more serious in his works, take care of his health and has some sense of ambition.

He has eyes around his son. And his son knows that.

"Actually, I had met him before. I know they are friends but I never expect they are....more than that", Mr Zhao now takes the pumpkin cookies instead.

After the bomb dropped at the dinner, Mr Zhao ignored them.

Zhao Yunlan glad. At least, his father silent means his father was considering his words. His mother also acted as nothing happened. She continued to spoil the twins with foods, touring them around the house and broke all his childhood secrets as she showed them his old pictures albums. This made Shen Wei especially less tense than before and Yezun lost his intention to kill him for risking his brother feelings.

The most bizarre thing is how easy Yezun talks with his mother about the latest fashion and beauty trends, while Shen Wei more indulgence in foods and gardening.

Wow, this is the happiest day for his mother. Finally, she found someone who has the same interest as her.

Thus, he slowly walks into his father study room when he sees lights is on. He knows his father is in there.

He knocks the door for a few times and opens the door awkwardly.

His father pulls out his spectacle and signs him to sit on the chair in front of him. When he sat, his father passed him a plate of cookies. Shen Wei strawberry shortcake cookies.

"It's okay, I'm full", Zhao Yunlan refuses politely. So, his father continues to eat.

"Are you really sure with your decision to marry him?"Mr Zhao starts to speak. Zhao Yunlan licks his lips nervously but answers the question with certainty, "Yes, I am. Dad, you actually know about us already right? With your eyes everywhere around me, even if I run to another universe, you never fail to check about me".

Mr Zhao sips his tea. "Yes. I know both of you close. I had met Professor Hu, his mentor at the university. Well, it is agreeable that Shen Wei is a great man".

Zhao Yunlan nods heavily.

"That's why I puzzle how he can fall in love with a person like you?"

Both of them burst with laugh.

"Come on dad. I am a great person as well"

"Of course, You are my son", Mr Zhao pat his son's shoulder. Last time he did this when Zhao Yunlan appointed as the Chief of SID. Only a few seconds but it actually melts the ice in Zhao Yunlan heart.

As Zhao Yunlan tell the whole story of his relationship with Shen Wei, his father also honest about his feelings and views towards his son.

How he proud with his son hardwork and success in the police force. They may have a different approach on how we settle the case, but they are same in guarding the person that they love.

Mr Zhao takes a box and put in front of Zhao Yunlan.

"For me?"

Mr Zhao chuckles, "Before I tell you the story behind this gift, I warn you one thing. Don't laugh".

"Ooookay", Zhao Yunlan really anticipate with this.

Huh! Mr Zhao feels like he really lost his mind tonight. Even his wife did not know about this.

"A few days ago, I bought this in Shanghai. It is sudden thought came into me to buy a gift for my future....daughter in law. This happened when most of the friends were speaking about their daughter in law and urging me to get you married soon", Mr Zhao stops a while and catch a glimpse of his son amusing face before continue, " When I showed this gift, they said it is too masculine and this will belong to you. Ironically, I feel that my choice is strongly right. And today....yeah.This is actually the reason why I ignored you guys just now".

Damn, the fate! Destiny! Zhao Yunlan is very dumbstruck with his father revelation. He slowly opens the box.

It is a necklace.  An amber orb pendant, wired with a thick black wire. The orb is shining  with orange lights.

"Wow, dad! It's so beautiful. Thank you very much", Zhao Yunlan thanks his father with a formal bow.  Mr Zhao smile slightly.

Unknown to them, someone is hearing the conversation quite long enough.
