Sharing is Caring

The cold summer breeze hit me hard, scraping along my cheeks. The air pricked my face and my lips had turned a pale blue. I was on my way to Lucy's house.

She lived on the other side of the forest, but I had taken a precaution and walked around it knowing if I entered something bad was bound to happen. The sun warmed me, taking away the tingling sensation.

Lucy's house, like mine, stood on its own. It was empty mostly, only a light shone through her room. The rest of her house was dark and shadowed. I had never met her parents. When I asked where they were she said they worked away from here and she didn't see them much.

I walked up to the porch and knocked the big brown door. The knock echoed through the house loudly, causing any other sound to silence. I looked up at her lit bedroom window. I shadow cast over the room then the light disappeared, and her room sank into darkness like the rest of the house. "Lucy I know you're in there!" I shouted.

Someone turned the latch and the door clicked. It creaked open slowly and a girl poked her head around the corner. It was Hope, she was dressed in Lucy's clothes.

"Hope?" I said. She nodded and opened the door so the light cast a line through the house. "Where have you been? I've been trying to talk to you all summer." I said. Hope fumbled around fiddling with her fingers and staring at the floor. "I'm sorry..." she said quietly.

The door opened wide to show Lucy stood by her side. Lucy has the same guilty look on her face, but unlike Hope was not afraid to show it. I tried to cast everything aside, hoping my news would be more important.

"I want to show you guys something", I said. Hope looked up, she squeezed out a soft smile and continued to listen to me. "You just need to follow me," I said.

Hope and Lucy followed closely behind, paired together. We approached a quiet area, hidden away. I stood before them, my smile gleaming brightly. "Well, get on with it." Lucy said angrily. She stood tensely by Hopes side, her fists clenched In balls.

I had been practicing magic, learning on my own. Concentrating on things, making them move without the help of Max. I was prepared to show them what I could do, I trusted them of course. A small pile of twigs lay neatly on the dirt. Hope and Lucy looked at it dumbfounded. "Is that what you've come to show us?" Lucy said slyly pointing a finger at the pile. Hope tugged on her arm, as to tell her not to be rude.

I raised my arms, my palms facing the sky. Closing my eyes, I rose them higher. And with that, the twigs floated too. They climbed the sky in a chain and hovered momentarily. With my mind I snapped each one, and then let them drop to the ground.

Hope and Lucy stood in awe, their mouths gaping. I closed my eyes and a flame sparked from the centre of the twigs. A few embers rose and the fire grew bigger. "How..." Hope said.

"I'm special, I'm an Aridian." I said. Lucy seemed angry, yet I did not know why. "Who told you that?" She asked. "Max," I said. Lucy lowered her head suspiciously but I ignored it. "I was born in another dimension, with magical powers. I died in a war and was resurrected here with no memory or knowledge." I explained.

Hope rolled her eyes, "that's impossible," she said. Lucy said nothing. "I can share my magic with you," I said. Hopes eyes lit with wonder, imagining what her life would be like. Lucy smirked, she seemed happy. "Well?" I asked. Hope stared down at the pile of ashes from where the fire had died down. "Show me something else..." she said.

I smiled, thinking of the million things I could show her. With the pile of ashes I erected a person, small, possibly the size of the hand.  I made her dance, and twirl. She span around gracefully. To accompany her a erected a man, he grabbed the girl made of ashes by the waist and twirled her over his head. It was beautiful. And then, the dancing slowed down. Their bodies stopped moving and they disintegrated from the head down. As they fell they made a small and delicate crackling sound before ending with silence.

"Do it." Hope said. She had been mesmerised by the dancing. I knew that from a little girl she was entranced with ballet and maybe that would convince her. I didn't want to be alone. There was Max and Jayden but they were never around, never there to help me. I needed someone else, someone to constantly be by my side. I thought that maybe it was selfish, but if Hope and Lucy really wanted it, it would be okay.

We sat in a circle. Each one of us looking around nervously. I had learnt how to perform the spell from the book of Aridia. It taught me many things about who I was and and where I had come from. It was an enlightenment. One that had changed my life.

I grasped Lucy and Hopes hand, they held on loosely worried as to what I would do. I focused, my mind fell into deep concentration. A vibration caused my lip to quiver and my hands to shake. I tried to stop the shaking but it was no use. My arms rocked violently and I was thrown forward. I burst of light erupted from my mouth and flew into the sky. The white light sparked and glittered before separating into three and plummeting into the hearts of Lucy and Hope.
