You met them beneath the willow tree. They were ethereally beautiful
They were timeless, ageless
They were there since the start of timeBut what drew you to them
Were their eyes
That held so much sorrow
As if mourning for the world'Save me', they pleaded
Nothing more than a mere murmur
But you heard them alright
And yet you did nothing
Centuries passed and those soft words
Died out to whispers before
Gradually fading away into nothingSilence was their loudest scream.
A thousand years have passed since that day
You stand once again beneath the willow tree
Only to see the once luscious sea of green
Reced into a dead, barren desert
Branches swaying limply
Caught in the grieving howl of the windGone was the lustre of life.
You live on
Knowing your inevitable fateYou fight on
Knowing that it's too lateYou suffer on
Knowing that your ignorance was the causeYou dream on
Of a world that could have been
But never will be.
