That night was a challenge to get some sleep. You twisted and turned from side to side, but hardly couldn't shut your eyes. Thoughts were spinning around like a carousel inside your head, which made you feel energetic and it was impossible to relax your body. It was him who caused a tingling experience, that you haven't ever felt before. It was odd, yet exciting. You were dreaming. Your mind drifted to a different world far away from the surroundings. An environment, belonging only for you and him. You were opposing each other, holding hands with your fingers interlocked, glaring deeply into each other's eyes. The corner of his eyes creased into thin lines, as his outstanding iris lit up. From there, you could read that he smiled kindly at you. You buried your head into his chest and heard his heartbeat. Slow and calm. He welcomed you by gripping his arms tightly around you. Steady and lovesome. A warm yet a safe touch, laid over you when you were captured in his bosom and could, therefore with a sigh of relief finally close your eyelid.
Later you woke up and realized that it was already morning. The bright lights were spreading outside your window and inside the entire room. You removed the blanket, and placed your feet on the cold wooden floor, yawning. The tiredness in you hadn't decided to leave your weary body yet. You washed your face and dried the remained dotty drops away from your face with a soft towel. Then your sense found their way back to your head and remembered yesterday's happening. Quickly you exchanged your wears, tied your hair into a messy bun and reached for the long, precious scarf you adored so much. Wrapping it around you and ran downstairs to find Mary-Beth. The owner looked at you with a fear crossing his face.
" Miss Y/N! What on earth are you doing? you scared the life out of me rushing down the stairs like that! "
You don't have time to give any excuses. There were more important things to gibber about.
" Have you seen Mary-Beth? " you asked impulsively while you were trying to catch your breath back to normal.
His expression hardened when he didn't receive an apology coming from you like he was expecting. Sharply, he picked up the newspaper high-mindedly, to cover his whole face.
" She's in the kitchen! " He replied strictly, without looking at you a bit. You carried on walking further to a tiny room, next to the bathroom. There she was. With a squared red and white apron, tied around her fragile waist and boiling some eggs. You patted lightly on her shoulder, and she aimed her gaze on you.
" You're on time for some well-made breakfast ", she emphasized slightly joyful. She was definitely in a better mood today.
" Forget about the breakfast. Guess who I happened to assist yesterday? " her mouth twisted as she was looking thoughtfully in the air, but didn't have enough time to give you a clarified response, as you answered the question instead of her.
" The notorious outlaw who helped you out of the situation that night, remember? "
Mary-Beth's face converted into a surprise, while her face lightens brightly.
" No way?! Did he mention anything about the incident? "
" No, not really. He wasn't so talkative ", you explained kinda condescending. " But he had me in mind ", you added with a pinch of cheering in your voice. Mary itched the edge of her brow looking puzzled.
" How did he recognize you? " she now asked being curious about the affiliation between you and him. Her question wasn't weird at all. Given the circumstances, however, that it was dark and misty that night. How could he possibly signify and memorize you? but you hadn't told her that you two had been confronting each other that morning on the street while she was away.
" It's a long story ", you replied quickly to get over with. " Mary this man is something else. He's special. I can feel that he's not like the others ". Your enthusiasm raised in the kitchen which had Mary to notice your unusual behavior.
" Tell me Y/N, have you fallen in love with him? " her words got you to become stiff. A feverish heat emerged your body and you felt how your cheeks became red like a tomato.
" No ", you lied. She rolled her eyes.
" Y/N has fallen in love with an inhuman outlaw, how splendid " while shaking her head. That harshly misjudge stung you unpleasantly.
" You cannot prejudge someone you haven't met yet Mary! " You answered back, slightly frustrated that she's being ignorant and unseemly.
" The eggs are ready ", she flinched back. But you didn't give up so easily and gripped her shoulders so that she could see your serious look in your face.
" Mary, I could read in his eyes that he's a good human. I just ... " She twitched away from your grip and gave you her mad look.
" You can picture them as you prefer, but you cannot change my opinions or thoughts about those types! " She then left you to eat her breakfast without saying a word. You sighed loudly and left the kitchen to get outside to stabilize your temperament. " Why is she so damn big-headed? " you said quietly within yourself. You gazed over the town Valentine, then up to the grey and doleful sky. A light breeze swept across your shoulders and gave you a cold shiver down your spine. You covered your shoulders with the scarf and hugged it tightly to keep your body warm. " I know you will come back for sure, my gut feelings are telling me so. It's just a matter of time. My instinct never fails me ".
" I'm sorry Y/N ", you heard someone say in the middle of your thoughts. It was Mary-Beth who came outside to accompany.
" It's alright. Guess we all make mistakes now and then ", you responded nonchalantly. Still tiny mad for her previous silly attitude. She lits a cigarette and inhales a long nice blow before she puffs the white smoke in the air. It remained awkwardly silent between you two for a short while then she regained her position, straightens her back upright.
" Look! " She says edgily as she points across the street. You followed her trail with your eyes to the other side.
A couple of men were standing there next to their horses, hitched at the horse station. They were three to be more exact. And all of them wore hats and long coats that reached down their calves.
" O.'Driscoll's ", Mary stated and took another smoke. " The one in the middle is Colm. O'Driscoll, their leader ".
You tried to peek at his direction to have a close-up look. A grey-white midlength haired man in his mid-age was gathering and blaring loudly with his men. You became solid like a stone when he caught you looking at him. Somehow you couldn't let go of his sight. Your eyes were glued on him. He grinned mischievously at you, which sent an uncomfortable signal inside your gut.
" Y/N " Mary pulled lightly on your scarf to focus back, which you did.
" I'm sorry Mary, but did you just see how he stared and smiled musing at me? " Mary let out a laugh.
" Don't they all smile grossly at us nonetheless? " she took her last blow and threw the end of the cigarette away. " Come on, let's go inside before it starts to rain ".
