The spell was complete and upon an evil laughter followed a heavenly apocalypse. All angels could feel heaven collapse beneath their feet, could hear the terrified screams of their brothers and sisters before one after one fell, fell down on earth. There was no way of saving, their wings burned bright as they came crashing down on earth like unlucky shooting stars. Some fell into water, some onto the hard ground, and some, like Castiel, found themselves surrounded by seemingly endless trees.Castiel was lost. He always adored to walk beneath the humans down on earth, but he never thought he would find himself in a situation like this. His angelic grace was gone, his wings burned away and tears building in his eyes. All he could see were his siblings falling and screaming in agony. Castiel could scream, his frustration was eating him up. What should he do now?
He was practically human, his home, heaven, was no longer and all of his siblings have to go through the same. He did not feel like he crashed down on earth, but straight into hell.
He tried to sort his thoughts and unsteady on his feet, he limbed through the forest, which turned out smaller than thought. Only now Castiel realized the pain in his legs and arms, and the aching in his back. As soon as he stumbled out of the forest to see a field, he collapsed against a tree.
His head was pounding as he found himself desperate enough to close his eyes, cry, and wait for death.
Dean left Sam in the bunker so he could get some rest. The past weeks were rough for his younger brother, but Dean needed some fresh air so he couldn't stay with him. He put on a leather jacket before he left the bunker to get into his impala and drive to no certain destination. He noticed that it was oddly dark for the time, but he didn't worry about it more than needed. He rolled down the windows of his car and blasted ACDC while driving through the rather empty streets. He drove for about 20 minutes before arriving at an abandoned church where he parked his car. Right next to it was a little forest and a field with nothing but dried out grass. Dean decided to take a little walk.
Castiel was exhausted and he thought he might pass out every second before he could hear footsteps approaching him. He wanted to hide but his reaction wasn't fast enough, and he couldn't bring himself to open his eyes, afraid to wake up in the same reality he crashed into.
"Hello?" A man voice called. "Hello? Are you alright? Hey, are you awake?" The man approached him faster as Castiel could hear, and only as the man decided to grab Castiel by his shoulders, he opened his eyes.
Was there something like feeling double lost? As Castiel glanced into the green eyes of the man in front of him, he gave up on trying to sort his thoughts. He forgot where he was, what happened, suddenly there were only those green eyes. The colour reminded Castiel of his own heaven,
of the freshly mowed grass and the blooming trees. He found his own heaven in those mans eyes and he couldn't bring himself to look away. Only now Castiel had realized the man was still talking.
"C'mon, answer me! What happened?" As Castiel blinked a few times, he finally looked away."I fell-" he brought himself to stop just in time. What should he say? His mind was a single mess.
"Fell? From where?" The man looked around but of course he wouldn't find anything.
"I can't recall, actually." Castiel decided to lie. He wasn't good at it, but he didn't think the man would worry about it too much.
"Hey buddy, do you still know your name?"
"It's Castiel"
"Alright Cas, it's alright I call you that?, should I bring you to a hospital or something?"
Castiel shook his head. "I only need some rest and maybe...food." He found his heart beating faster at the man calling him Cas. "What is your name?" Castiel still sat on the ground like a lost child, with the man kneeling next to him.
"I'm Dean. C'mon, I'll take you home to me until you feel better."
Castiel let Dean help him stand up and bring him to his car. They didn't talk during the drive, but Castiel kept looking at Deans face, because he could just not believe a beauty like this is real. They arrived in the bunker and Dean made Cas something to eat before showing him a free bedroom in which he could sleep. Castiel was thankful and as soon as Dean closed the room behind him as he stepped out of now Cas' bedroom, Castiel was lost once again. He knew beds were created to sleep in them, but how does one sleep? He followed the human ritual of taking of the clothes, he decided to keep on his underwear though, and layed down in the bed. He rolled himself into the blankets and closed his eyes and remained like this for approximately the next 2 to 3 hours.
He finally gave up. Cas put on his clothes again and sneaked out of the bunker to watch the stars. He sat down on the cold ground as he felt tears building in his eyes and he started to process the happenings.
"You're still up?"
Castiel winced. He turned around to see Dean slowly coming closer to Castiel until he sat down to his right. Instead of answering, the fallen angel nodded.
"Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of sleeping too. Also, I like to watch the night sky."Maybe only minutes passed, and maybe hours, but the silence between them stayed comfortable as the two men watched the sky.
"I miss home" Castiel said, interrupting the silence."Hm?" Dean answered, more out of surprise.
"I...got kicked out of home you could say. And I miss it." Castiel admitted with a broken voice.
"Is there no way of going back? Can't you just, well I don't know what happened, but can't you fix it?"
"There is nothing left to fix."
Dean stopped watching the stars but now looked at Castiel, who's face was reflecting the pain he felt. "Are you alone?" Dean asked curiously. "Is there no one you have to be with right now?""No. I am alone. I don't know where my siblings are, they were my only friends, and the same applies to my parents. I am lost and somewhat...broken."
Dean could hear the whimper in Cas' voice and it touched him somehow. "You lied to me" Dean said before looking back up again.
"...About what?" Castiel answered.
"You said there is nothing left to fix, but..." Now Dean looked at Castiel again who was looking back. "But I think you can be fixed." And before Castiel could respond Dean hugged the broken man, just because he felt like it. Castiel had never experienced such an overwhelming feeling from such a simple act.
"But... I don't deserve it."
Dean shook his head as he let go of the embrace. "I don't know what it is about you, but I feel obligated to make you feel alright, and that's what I'm gonna do. And don't say that, every broken piece deserves to be put together. Maybe it takes a while and requires patience, but eventually you'll be fine again. Of course you will have scars that show your broken past, but it doesn't make you worthless, no, it shows how strong you are. Also I don't know why I'm getting so chick-flicky, but as I said... there is just something about you."
Before Cas could process Deans words, the Winchester took Cas' face into his hands and pushed him closer to himself before their lips collided. Deans lips were warm and calmly against the soft lips of Castiel and it made Cas' light up from inside out.
The both men spend the night like this, watching the stars, chatting a bit, and every now and then Dean would press a kiss against Castiel lips. As soon as it turned morning though, both men fell asleep and Castiel didn't dream of heaven that night, of everything being like it used to be, but about Deans eyes, in which he found a new heaven and he also might say, a better one.
