Holly's POV

"Aww I'm sorry you didn't get the job Holly. Maybe next time." Ivy told me.

I was on the phone with Ivy after a disappointing interview at Barnes & Noble. I honestly don't know why I even tried this time. I don't usually get discouraged, but after two job rejects it's hard to stay a "Happy Holly." I tried to fake it for Ivy, although she knew better.

"Haha yeah. It's all good though! I think there may be an opening at Jamba Juice!" I said fake cheerily.

"Holly, I know this is hard for you. You don't have to fake it. I think you should wait a little bit. Unless..."

"Unless what?" I asked her.

"Well it's not guaranteed, but the mall that Rosie and I work at might have a Santa set up this year. Which may or may not have..."

"Ughh have what?! Ivy you know I hate suspense!" I shouted over the phone.

"Haha okay chill-"

I cut her off. "You've known me long enough to know that I don't do chill." I laughed.

"This is true." She laughed. "Anyway... they might have an opening for...some elves."

That was it. That was the job I needed. It was perfect for me. All the elfy-ness around and I wouldn't even have to pretend! I couldn't contain my excitement.

"WHAT??? THAT'S SO PERFECT I'M SO EXCITED!!! Ohhhhh I need to start preparing! When do they open? Do you think they'll give me the job? If I do get the job what do I do?" I kept going on and on.

"Holllyyyyyy." She said my name long and drawn out.

"What?!" I paused. "And don't say chill."

"Haha. I wasn't going to tell you this cause I thought you would freak out. I'm not sure of any of it. It's just a rumor. I will keep you posted if you promise not to apply for any other jobs this week."

"Oh yeah for sure! I really hope this job works out!"

"Holly." Ivy said firmly.

"What?" I asked her.

"You need to actually promise." She told me.

"Oh okay!"

"No really, say it." She said again.

"Okay fine I promise to not apply for anymore jobs until the Santa one opens."

"Good job." Ivy said sarcastically.

"Thank you!"

"I should probably go to bed. I have an early work day tomorrow."

"Oh Ivy one more thing."

"Yes?"

"So um why did you get us tickets to Elf the Musical?"

Ivy's POV

And here's the question I was dreading. The reason that I was stalling with the whole job thing. I wasn't lying about the Santa set up, but I was really hoping that Holly had forgotten about the musical. So now I was faced with a few options. I could tell her that I like musicals and that she should accept it if she's really my friend, I could tell her about Ben and wanting to meet him, or I could lie and say my sister pressured me into it. I decided to go with option three which was probably not the best choice, but I've lied to her before. And I will tell her the real reason...eventually.

"Oh yeah. Umm...my sister said I should go, and she can be pretty convincing. I know you don't like musicals but we should go! It might be fun, and come on, it's Elf.

"Haha yeah. I guess it will be okay."

"Yep. Well, goodnight!"

"Goodnight! Dream of Sugar Plum Fairies and Christmas trees!"

I hung up the phone feeling relieved.

"Oh good she fell for it." I whispered to myself.

Well that went better than expected. Kinda weird that she didn't question it. She's usually pretty skeptical. I'm just not going to think too hard about it. I was going to go to bed, but Pinterest was calling me. As much as I hated myself for it, I grabbed my laptop and looked up pictures of the one and only Ben Tyler Cook. I had already watched Newsies Live today once I found out he was in it, and it was amazing. Noelle was right, he really did stand out onstage. And oh could he dance. I had to look up more pictures of him to add to my board. It was 9:30 right now so I figured I could stay up for another 15 minutes. The time went fast and I found myself staying up until past 12, looking at nothing else but Ben. I was officially obsessed, and I hated it.

Holly's POV

I got off the phone with Ivy and laid down on my bed. It was already "Christmas-fied" because I hadn't changed it from last Christmas, or the one before that. I just liked the blue comforter and white reindeer too much to change it. I got out my Nicholas Sparks Christmas romance, determined to finish it before Rosie. I opened it up to the first chapter, but I couldn't focus on it. I just kept thinking about Ivy's response. She seemed very hesitant, like she was lying. Ivy had never lied to me before. At least I didn't think she had. I don't think she would hide something from me...or would she? I wouldn't be so mad if she liked musicals. Well actually, I probably would be pretty upset. I have a very good reason in my opinion for not liking musicals. They're fake and forced, but those are just excuses for my real reason. And I haven't told that to anyone, not even Ivy. I tried a couple more times to read the book, but I couldn't stop thinking about it. Eventually I just gave up ad went to bed. Hopefully these thoughts wouldn't creep into my dreams too.

THE NEXT DAY...

I woke up to a text from Ivy.

Ivy: Hey, I was just wondering if you wanted to come to the mall with me. Maybe do some early Black Friday shopping? 😉

Me: Ooh that sounds fun! 🎄😆 When are you off work?

Ivy: About 2 hours. I invited Rosie too but I haven't heard back, so I was thinking just you and me?

Me: Sounds great! I'll be at Starbucks soon!

Ivy: 👍🏻

I got dressed and walked over to the mall. It was only a block away from my house. I was so excited to hang with Ivy! Hopefully there wouldn't be any tension from last night's conversation.

Ivy's POV

I finished my shift and met Holly at a table. She already had her drink which was, of course, a Peppermint Mocha Latte. We sat and talked for a while about random things like Christmas movies and what we were planning to do for Thanksgiving tomorrow. We got up to leave and I wasn't looking where I was going. WHAM! I collided straight into someone and fell over.

"Oh wow. Are you okay?" A familiar voice said.

"I'm okay thanks. Oh my gosh I am so sorry!" I said while I was getting up.

"It's alright. At least I didn't have a Starbucks drink in my hand. Then we would have a problem." The same familiar voice said jokingly.

I looked at who was I bumped into and almost fainted. I just literally ran into Ben. Tyler. Cook.

Hey guys! I'm at Knott's Berry Farm right now so I may not be able to publish everyday. But I'm still making it my goal! I hope you guys are enjoying my story!
