Chapter 6: Welcome to my world
When I got back to my room, Lexi was on the phone so I sat down on my bed and started scrolling through Instagram.
Soon I realized that was a bad idea and switched to snapchat.
That was also not a smart idea so I just turned off my phone and stared at my ceiling.
Seeing everything on Instagram and snapchat that I miss out on while I'm in the hospital just gets me in a mood. I can't change that though so I just have to suck it up and keep going.
My sister gets off the phone and turns to me.
"Who was that?" I ask and she sits down next to me on the bed.
"Cara." She says. "She wanted to know how you're doing and if there was any updates."
"What'd you tell her?"
"I told her that you're still handling it pretty well and that the monitoring is pretty excessive but that's what they have to do for things like this. I also told her that nothings really changed with the condition of your blood but we should know more soon after all of these tests."
"Did she ask about mom?"
Lexi sighs, "Always does... you know, all of this is really hard on mom, Lyla. She has to pay all of the hospital bills and working 3 jobs to try and do that isn't easy."
I scoff, "Yeah I know but she could at least acknowledge me while I'm still alive."
"She barely has any free time and you know that. And when she's not working she's tired. Plus seeing your child in a hospital bed with what could possibly be Leukemia isn't the happiest sight. Cancer is a big deal, L."
There it is.
Cancer.
The word makes me feel sick to my stomach but like a lot of things, you just have to deal with it.
"And that's why she should be here." I state.
Lexi opens her mouth to say something but gets cut off by nurse Jackson walking in to the room.
"Hello girls. Lyla, are you ready for the next test?" she says as she goes through her binder, trying to find something.
"It's not like I have a choice."
"That's the spirit." She says as she finds the paper she was looking for and pulls it out of her binder.
She reads the paper with a poker face before finally letting a little emotion paint her face. And it was not a very promising emotion. "Aha. So this is the test that might be a little discomforting."
That really makes my nerves spike... "What do you mean by 'discomforting'?" I ask.
"Well this procedure-" Just hearing the word procedure tells me that this is not going to be fun. "-is called a bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. So the Doctor is going to remove some bone marrow from your hip and then they will do the biopsy and remove a piece of bone."
My face immediately drops. "Will I be put asleep?"
"No this is a procedure that you're awake for."
"Numbing?"
"Yes don't worry, they'll numb you.
I release a breath I didn't know I was holding. Well at least that's some sort of relief.
"Ok let's get this done with."
♢♢♢
That was one of the worst things that I've ever had to do at this hospital.
Even the freaking numbing hurt.
And I swear, I can not describe to you how it felt to have your hip bone being dug into.
"Ok that's about it for tonight... relax, get some sleep and the results should be here in a couple of weeks." Nurse Jackson says as she gathers her stuff and prepares to leave the room. "I'll be back in the morning to change your bandages and give you the all clear. Goodnight ladies."
At that, my sister and I both wave as she leaves the room.
Sadly while I was getting a mini surgery, I missed the sunset and didn't get to take a picture...
"I'm just gonna go to sleep Lexi. You can go if you want." I say as I snuggle into my blankets.
"Yeah, I don't want to leave you, but I have to work in the morning and take Rylan to school. I'll see you soon Lyla. Call me whenever."
"Ok goodnight." I call out to her as she makes her way out of my room.
"Goodnight."

This chapter is pretty short and it wasn't originally like that, but after much thought, I decided to cut it short for more effect in the next chapter.
So I can guarantee you that the next chapter is going to be a long one.
But until then...
