Despite my want to not eat the food Casey made me, my stomach desperately needed it. To be honest, he was a pretty good cook, but I mean you can't exactly mess up eggs and bacon... I sat, alone shoving the breakfast in my face to fill my empty stomach. A knock on the front door, shook me from my daze. I took my now empty plate to the sink and walked to the door. Pounding came from the other side.
Someone really wanted in... "Hold on!"
The last person I expected to be standing behind the door appeared in front of me. "What? Uh-" She cut me off with a wave of her hand and stormed into the living room, sitting herself on the couch. "Rachel, what are you doing here? I thought you were mad at me?" Rolling her eyes, she picked up her feet and laid them on the coffee table.
"I'm impulsive."
"What?"
"I'm impulsive and I obviously overreacted. You were in some kinda fight with that hottie of a boyfriend. Too bad his personality doesn't match..." Rachel seemed as if she was thinking deeply about this. "Well, I'm sorry I snapped at you. I was just stressed out," I said.
To my surprise, I felt an arm wrap around my shoulder and I was suddenly dragged to my room. "Grab your purse, we're going out." I wriggled my way out of her grasp and faced her. "Wha-" Waving a finger in my face, she said, "Don't ask questions, just do what I say."

I somehow ended up in Rachel's Ford Escape 5 minutes later, driving to a "mystery location". I felt unnaturally giddy. I'd never had a friend do something like this for me before. Well, I'd only ever had two friends back home, but that's besides the point. This was me, with some girl that was cool, someone different. My life sure had gotten weird over the last 24 hours...
"You ready to know where we're going?" Rachel finally asked. "YES!" Just as I yelled that, she turned a corner pulling into a parking lot. "Close your eyes," she said.
"I feel like we're on some romantic date or something..." I said.
"Sorry, hun, but you're taken. I'm not the kinda person to cheat." I heard the car door slam and then felt a breeze come from my side, and suddenly a hand was gripping my arm and pulling me out of the car. "Ok, open!" Looking in front of me, I saw an old bookstore, with a connected coffee shop.
"How..." She just grabbed my wrist and pulled me towards the store. "I saw your boxes, half of them full of books. It seemed like the right place for you." Rachel flashed a grin. Smiling back, I pulled out of her grip and walked in through the old red doors.
Just walking in felt amazing. The smell of old books filled me with pure happiness. I probably looked like a complete nerd to Rachel. I turned around to thank her, but she was gone. Did she leave? No, her car was still here. I searched the store from where I stood, then finally decided to go through the aisles. After about five minutes of searching and no luck, I decided to head towards the poetry section, yes, poetry. I scanned my eyes over the many books, finding I had read most of them already. I searched the bottom shelf finding a small faded book, that I'd never heard of. I stood up, reading the back, when I felt someone directly in front of me, that I had definitely slammed into (I'm good at that). "Oh, I'm so sor-" I scrunched my eyebrows up in confusion. "Rachel?" There kneeling on the ground holding several small poetry books in her arms. "What? I can't buy something for myself too?" She pushed herself off the ground and began scouring the top shelf, avoiding my eyes. "No, I just didn't expect you to be poetry reader..." Rachel grinned and said, "Everyone has their secrets, Noah." For some reason I felt like it was directed at me and the whole Casey situation, but I ignored it and continued to look at the books.
We spent about another hour finding new books and talking about our favorite authors and poems, finding we had much more in common than we thought.

After purchasing about three poetry collections each, we headed over to the little coffee shop next to the bookstore. "I can't believe that just happened," I said out of nowhere. Rachel gave me a blank look. "What?" I laughed to myself. "I don't know, I yell at this super awesome, pretty, popular girl expecting her to hate me and then she shows up the next day and takes me to an amazing bookstore and it turns out she's a total poetry nerd." We both burst out laughing at that. Rachel smacked me on the arm. "Shut up."
Everything was perfect for a couple hours with Rachel. We just sat at the table drinking our coffee, reading, and talking about random crap. We finally left after awhile, not even realizing how much time had past. As we headed towards her car, the sun was already setting in the distance.
"You have my number right?" I laughed and said, "Yes, you live right across from me. We'll be okay." She rolled her eyes and unlocked her door. I did the same. Setting my purse on the counter, I headed around to the fridge to get myself something for dinner. "Casey! Have you had dinner?" I shouted, realizing how much I sounded like a mom. There was no response. "Casey?" I headed to his room. The door was still closed like when I left. Knocking on his door, I said "Casey, you in there?" All I heard was a groan from the other side. He was in there. "Can I come in? Do you want any dinner?" Another groan. "Are you okay?" Groan. I swung open the door.
"What the heck..." There were beer cans scattered over the floor of his room, along with a limp Casey. "Casey?"
"I'm drunnnnnnk..."
I shook my head. "I can tell dumbo. Get off the floor!" He rolled off his side to stare up at me. "I'm drunnnnnnnk..." Rolling my eyes, I grabbed him by the armpits and attempted to drag him to his bed. Though, that didn't work out, due to the fact that Casey weighs more than he looks, or maybe that the only weight I'd ever lifted was a novel. After much struggling, I eventually gave up. "Come on Casey, you have to help me. Get in bed."
He just laid their like a ragdoll, staring up at the ceiling. "You have nice hair, Noah."
God, he must be really drunk, he was complimenting me. "That's nice Casey, now get up." Casey made no effort to move. "I'm serious, you have such.... nice hair.. but i'm drunnnnnk..."
I was getting nowhere with this kid. He was too drunk to even process my words. I decided to leave him on the floor, which probably wasn't the nicest thing ever.
As I was leaving, Casey whispered, "Stay, please..."
